The Senior Manager, Transportation and Logistics Operations oversees and manages the daily process and personnel of the Transportation and Logistics Operations functions of the organization. This position will work closely with the Director of Transportation to establish annual benchmark goals for the departments, including budgeting.
The Senior Manager, Transportation and Logistics Operations is responsible for the effective development of employees in Transportation Operations department and contributing to company goals of professional development.
General Operational Performance :
Determine the most efficient sequence of Transportation Operations and workflow and recommends methods for maximum asset / people utilization.
Drive existing and new carrier and partner relationships
Collaborate cross-functionally to onboard new clients and track / analyze performance.
Raise awareness of process change impacts throughout Transportation Operations.
Identifying patterns and anticipating business needs that will drive performance. Recommend methods for improving associate efficiency and reducing waste of time and effort (e.g., restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, job setup and related)
Partner with the Director of Transportation to build culture action plans that best align to our strategies and business initiatives.
Deliver efficient and effective solutions that meet the constraints of time, cost and scope.
Measure the effect of process changes and accurately quantifying the impact.
Influence key stakeholders to achieve results in an autonomous manner.
Facilitate proactive change management to all levels of the department impacted by project rollouts.
Participate in training and testing for new systems and processes as part of implementation plan.
Lead / execute best practices to promote associate engagement and enablement.
Identify ways to build / implement talent capabilities at all levels while identifying opportunities for training and development.
Interactions :
Support the sales team with responding to requests for proposals, and the on-boarding process for new customers.
Assist the sales team with a greater understanding of the processes and capabilities of the Transportation Operations Department.
Provide feedback to the Director of Transportation regarding trends, customer challenges or issues with service.
Managing :
Provide leadership to the departments in all areas, including industry knowledge, trends and techniques in customer service, and professionalism.
Manage and enhance carrier relations opportunities to support growth.
Build bench strength by participating in the recruiting and interviewing process to identify individuals who will make a positive impact on the organization in positions within the various operational departments. Be attuned to Langham employees who demonstrate the potential to take on additional responsibilities and / or move into other positions.
Hold employees accountable for meeting their goals and assignments and take appropriate steps when problems occur.
Critical Skills Necessary
Experience with LTL carrier / client negotiating and optimization.
Demonstrates understanding of the logistics and transportation industry, including regulatory requirements with a full understanding of International Air / Ocean Import and Exports.
Experience with commercial air multi-leg coordination and development; strong experience with ground expedite
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret financial statements. Ability to analyze financial information, recognize trends, and make decisions. Can operate within a budget.
Able to manage an overall process of a department or division, including setting and meeting schedules, prioritizing, and following up on tasks, performing responsibilities efficiently and timely (time management) and delivering agreed upon outcomes.
Effective supervisory skills, including recruiting, teaching, coaching, mentoring, and terminating. Able to guide others towards professional development in the industry. Can hold others accountable for performance.
Proactive in anticipating and alerting others to problems with projects or processes. Able to negotiate with and influence others. Able to resolve conflicts.
Responding and pricing RFP’s (Request for Pricing)
Prior knowledge and understanding of Life Science and Temperature controlled transportation a plus
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a business-related discipline, preferably logistics or supply chain
5-8 years’ experience in the transportation industry.
5 - 8 years LTL, Truckload, Domestic / International Air, and international (Ocean) negotiations experience
5 years management experience in a comparable organization.
Physical Demands and Work Environment : Must be able to work proficiently with computer and other office equipment. Work is performed at the corporate headquarters.
