Langley Children’s Center (LCC) an employer-sponsored and NAEYC accredited program in Northern Va. seeks a Prekindergarten Teacher for our PK4/5 group (16 children).
The Teacher is a thought-partner to the Lead Teachers and share responsibility for planning and facilitating an Emergent Inquiry Curriculum approach as part of the classroom team and based on child-led inquiry and project work. The teacher creates an engaging, warm and responsive environment where all children have the opportunity and support to become the best versions of themselves.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of typical and atypical child development, experience in teaching in an inquiry-based program and working with 4-5 year olds. Working closely with other educators, the teacher co-plans and implements an emergent curriculum, routinely observes and documents children’s learning (writing monthly anecdotal observations), manages individual child and group behaviors, and builds sensitive and responsive relationships with children and parents.
Role Responsibilities:
-Co-facilitates developmentally appropriate, inquiry-based project work; collaborates and implements a learner-centered and emergent curriculum, working cooperatively and collaboratively with a larger teaching team.
-Regularly observes, assesses and documents children’s development, learning and individual and group work for all learning domains. Develops and maintains child observation records and work samples for inclusion in children's portfolios. Leads Parent-Teacher conferences.
- Effectively manages children's behavior as individuals and as part of the group.
-Collaborates and communicates with other co-workers.
-Prepares the daily classroom environment ensuring it is organized, beautiful and inviting for all children and adults; complies with licensing regulations and NAEYC accreditation standards.
Requirements:
-REQUIRED: US Citizenship and able to be approved for a Secret-level security clearance after a comprehensive Federal background investigation
-Minimum of a CDA-Preschool Specialization; an Associate degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education/Special Education, Child Development/Family Studies or closely related education field preferred.
-Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching within a child-led play and inquiry-based approach to early childhood education.
- Experience writing detailed observations of children and developing child portfolios.
-Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, engage in repetitive movements (sitting, standing, bending, lifting) indoors and outside and sit on the floor for extended periods of time with children
NOTE: A car is needed for access to the site on a daily basis
LCC is open from 7AM to 6PM, Monday through Friday year-round. This position is for someone who is able to work a closing shift, 9:00-6:00 (1 hour unpaid break).
