Overview
Langston University invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Research Director in the Sherman Lewis School of Agricultural and Applied Sciences (LU SI./SAAS). Although we seek to fill the position as soon as possible, this full-time, 12-month appointment has a negotiable start date and salary commensurate with experience.

This position will work closely with the Dean and Director of Land Grant Programs as well as with other members of the SUSAAS administration to provide day-to-day leadership and management of Langston University's diverse Land-Grant research program and activities. He or she will provide focused and creative leadership dedicated to enhancing and strengthening research and related missions of SL/SAAS.

The ideal candidate will be someone who brings energy, creativity, leadership, the spirit of teamwork, and vision to the advancement of both applied and basic research, procurement of grants, and the ability to mentor the next generation of scientists and practitioners. Additionally, the position interfaces with a diversity of public/private partners and helps to ensure compliance with the policies of the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture. It has oversight for and leads staff members to complete research responsibilities. Representing and promoting Langston University on National committees and meetings is an important responsibility of the position.


The research program at Langston University is rapidly developing, very organized and is impactful for large numbers of stakeholders. It includes one of the largest and most established small ruminant research programs in the USA and involves goats used for meat, milk, and fiber. A large number of the goats and sheep is used for research, extension and pedagogy. However, value-added product, distribution and consumption have emerged as a crucial aspect of the research, academic and extension programs. Other research areas in the SUSAAS are cattle, horticulture, aquaculture/ aquaponics, biotechnology, agribusiness, honey beekeeping, agricultural economics and other areas. SUSAAS is committed to excellence in research, extension, teaching. and international programs in accordance with the Land-Grant mission of Langston University.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the scholarly and creative research work of the SIJSAAS faculty/staff,
including research grants, peer-reviewed publications.

Serve as member of the SUSAAS administrative team. which functions collaboratively across academics, research, extension education, global engagement, and outreach functions of the school.


Provide overall leadership and management of research integration with some extension activities with efficient and safe operation of all the activities, the intellectual health and long-term vitality of the programs, and the stewardship of the human and financial resources essential to the successful fulfillment of the missions of SL/SAAS.


Recommend relevant personnel changes.
Participate in fiscal year reporting, budget planning and management of appropriated and grant funds.


Serve as Research Integrity Officer for the Office of Research Integrity of the University.


Serve as Responsible Officer for the International Exchange Program of the School, being responsible for use of SEVIS (Stu.dent and Exchange Visitor Information System);


Assume other responsibilities assigned by the Dean.

Willingness to be mentored.


Earned doctoral degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Horticulture, Plants and Related Science, Environmental Science, Precision Agriculture, specialization in other related areas of Agriculture will also be considered.

Distinguished record of scholarly accomplishments (i.e., typically at least 7-10 years of service after Ph.D.) and strong record of academic, research, and grant success.


Strong record of research accomplishments.


Demonstrated n:cord of success in leadership, team-building, and fiscal and personnel management in a program.


Demonstrated commitment to research, outreach, and equal opportunity.


Outstanding leadership and communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders


Ability to be a strong advocate for SUSAAS and the Land-Grant Mission.


Familiar with relevant programs and activities of the USDA, as well as other potential national and international funding sources.


Ability to represent SUSAAS within Langston University and beyond.
