Job Description
Job Title: Paid Emergency Medical Technician
Reports To: Assistant Chief
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary: Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) respond to medical emergencies and deliver patient care, support, and evaluation in a pre-hospital setting, like on scene and during transport to the hospital. This generally includes assessing the patient, determining the proper emergency care, and administering treatment.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Follows company Standard Operating Procedures, radio communication procedures, established Department of Transportation guidelines, state regulations, ‘sponsor’ hospital guidelines and company policies as required.*
2. Performs routine maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment at the beginning of each shift; and records and submits lists to Shift Coordinator.*
3. Documents and reports vehicle and equipment malfunctions to Supervisor on duty.*
4. Receives "call" information from dispatch center, and drives ambulance to the scene.*
5. Assists sick or injured patients by providing proper medical care and treatment.*
6. Assesses patient conditions to include obtaining patient histories, vital signs and providing shock treatments; maintains proficiency in applying dressings and bandages, oxygen therapy, splinting, back boarding and suctioning.*
7. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and ambulances, and restocks supplies used after each "call."*
8. Completes electronic patient care reports (EPCR) to include patient information, location and treatments administered for all calls during shift. Completes billing forms accurately, and submits to Supervisor.*
9. Attends in-house product training and outside training sessions as required to learn new techniques and maintain current skills.*
10. Maintains crews' quarters in a neat and orderly fashion as needed.*
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises one employee. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Basic Computer Skills.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
