Position Title: Camera Operator I
Location: Lansing Church ~ 5304 Wise Rd.~ Lansing, MI
Reports to: John Jones (Department head, Sound & Media)
Status: Minimal time, 5-8 hours a week (Wednesday nights & Sunday mornings required)
Salary Range: Non-paid Volunteer
Introduction:
Lansing Church is seeking a dedicated and reliable part-time Camera Operator to assist with capturing high-quality video content for our worship services, events, and live broadcasts. The Camera Operator will work closely with the media and production teams to ensure seamless video recording and live streaming services to engage our congregation and global audience. This role is ideal for someone passionate about church ministry, media production, and/or looking to gain experience in media technology. Although God’s Word and its proclamation remain central, we increasingly recognize the importance of excellence in all the other aspects of our ministry service as well.
Key Responsibilities:
· Operate video cameras during worship services, special events, and other church-related activities to ensure clear and engaging visual content.
· Collaborate with the production team to follow the service flow and capture key moments, including worship, preaching, and other church activities.
· Ensure camera equipment is set up, tested, and functioning properly before each service or event.
· Monitor and adjust camera angles, focus, and lighting as needed during live broadcasts to produce professional-quality footage.
· Assist with the preparation and breakdown of equipment before and after services/events.
· Maintain knowledge of the church’s broadcast platform and collaborate with the media team to ensure smooth streaming and recording.
· Communicate effectively with the production team to ensure timely transitions and coordination during services.
· Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues with cameras or equipment during live events.
· Attend weekly All-staff trial runs of services, Tuesday evenings at 7 pm, Sunday 8:30 am
· Adjust schedule monthly using Planning Center and other schedule tools
· Attend weekly recap meetings with the media & production team to review services
Qualifications:
· Experience with operating video cameras (professional or consumer-grade) is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
· Basic understanding of live streaming and video production.
· Ability to follow direction and collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
· Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
· Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as needed.
· A passion for ministry and helping to create impactful media for the church community.
· Car is recommended, but having adequate transportation to church campuses
Requirements:
· Must be at least 16 years old (under 18 must have a signed waiver by parents or legal guardian)
· Must be able to pass a criminal history background check and/or FBI fingerprint examination
· Must sign a church volunteer and leadership agreement
· You must wear black (darker) colored clothing while operating equipment
· Must be respectful, maintain integrity, and be honorable on church grounds
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time during services (up to 2 hours)
· Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 25 lbs.) as needed.
