What are the responsibilities and job description for the Backup Stats and Pitchclock Operator position at Lansing Lugnuts?
Back Up Stats will start during the spring semester (early April) and run through the end of the baseball season (September). Online training will be given during the month of February/March. The baseball season officially begins in April where staff are expected to work home games through September. Games are played on nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to fill in when needed is expected. An hourly wage and college credit can also be awarded for students that need internship credit. If interested, please apply on Teamwork Online.
Back Up Stats:
Back Up Stats work cooperatively as a part of the Lugnuts’ staff. Individuals have the opportunity to rotate and learn different positions. 1-2 positions are available.
Positions include:
- Back Up Statistics Operator – Watch and record statistics into the stats computer through DakStats as the game is happening. Stats will be displayed on the video boards throughout the game. Must be able to pay attention to the baseball game and work with the official scorer throughout the game.
- Back Up Web Statistics Operator – Watch and record statistics into the stats computer through MLB platform as the game is happening. Stats will update the website with live game tracking. Must be able to pay attention to the baseball game and work with the official scorer and with remote MLB members throughout the game. Will need to complete MLB training before the season starts.
- Back Up Timeclock Operator – Operate timeclock throughout the entirety of the game. Will have constant communication with umpires to start and stop the clock. Will need to complete MLB training before the season starts.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Applicants should be college students or recent graduates pursuing a degree/career in Production, Broadcast, or related field.
- Experience with stats software, having experience in DakStats is a plus.
- Knowledge of baseball rules and scoring.
- Video camera experience, sports video experience is a plus if individual is interested in camera work.
- Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal)
