In pursuit of this mission, we are hiring a High School School Leadership Elective Teacher for Eastern High School. This individual will ensure our 9th-12th grade students receive world-class leadership instruction. Our teachers must also work to build safe, nurturing classrooms where students can be themselves and work collaboratively towards common learning goals. Teachers will work alongside other teachers, parents, and students to ensure they are providing the best education experience to all students.


The Leadership course focuses on enhancing students' skills in areas like goal setting, group collaboration, personal relations, and problem-solving. Through exploring personal leadership styles, communication, decision making, and teamwork, students deepen their abilities, applying knowledge across the curriculum and engaging in leadership projects within the Lansing School District and community.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in management or related field
  • Alignment with Lansing School District's mission and values


Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with secondary endorsement (will be required to enroll in program if don't currently possess)
  • Previous successful teaching experience in urban setting

  • Teach students principles of leadership, social justice and community service
  • Provide world-class instruction in various areas
  • Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
  • Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
  • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
  • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
