SUMMARY
A Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) supports the treatment of clients who are struggling with addiction and may perform a variety of tasks to provide clients with the best possible care. Must understand the treatment program, record client behavior, and provide a safe, supportive environment for the clients and peers. May provide and assist in daily activities, whether therapeutic or recreational. To be successful in this role, a BHT needs to have good communication skills and a positive demeanor towards clients and other staff members.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain professional boundaries with staff and clients.
- Refrain from sponsoring clients, and sharing personal contact info such as cell phone number, address etc. Always direct these scenarios to our alumni program.
- Convey clients’ needs to medical, clinical, and other operations staff.

Shift change responsibilities:
- Prepare office for oncoming shift.
- Ensuring shift notes are completed for shift change handoff.
- Check and sign off on temperature, disinfectant, & refrigerator logs.
- Complete timely client rounds and save to client file.
- Supervise telehealth calls & personal calls.
- Support client treatment goals as identified by the treatment team while monitoring clients conduct throughout each day providing guidance.
- Participates in crisis intervention and conflict resolution actions, including suicide assessments, partner abuse, child, and elder abuse screening; responds appropriately to resolve crisis situations; implements mandatory reporting procedures in accordance with regulations (including HIPAA) and policies.
- Immediately report any crisis or serious concerns to appropriate staff.
- Utilize incident report to document any incidents when on duty following professional protocol.
- Escort clients to their scheduled groups and/or transport clients to their off-site appointments.
- Ensure clients are awake and report to nursing for medication rounds.
- Maintain cleanliness within the entire facility and completing cleaning logs. Such as but not limited to:
- Kitchen, refrigerator, and food storage
- Client rooms during stay at discharge with a new setup for the next client
- Restrooms
- Living and group rooms to include outdoor group areas
- Wash and put away clean laundry
- Maintain proper chain of command.
- Maintain a positive and supportive work environment while exercising good judgement.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings/in service training.
- Maintain a good driving record.
- Maintain a high level of flexibility with the daily flow of work tasks.
- Complete all other duties as directed by the Lead BHT, BHT Supervisor, Operations Manager, or EHG leadership.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- 2 years’ addiction treatment center experience preferred
- 2 years’ IOP/PHP experience preferred
- First Aid/CPR/AED certified within 30 days of employment
- Effective September 1, 2023, a valid Motor Vehicle License
- ServSafe certification required within 30 days of employment
