The Director of Training & Learning will play a vital leadership role in shaping and enhancing Lantern’s training department, fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment that aligns with organizational goals. This position supports a culture of curiosity, cultural humility, continuous improvement, and evidence-informed practice, all aimed at furthering Lantern’s mission to champion the independence and well-being of New Yorkers affected by homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
- Training Development: Design, implement, conduct, and evaluate training programs that empower staff across all roles to master Lantern’s foundational evidence-based approaches, such as Housing First, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, and Cultural Humility. Spearhead the establishment and growth of Lantern's training department, designing a strategic framework that promotes comprehensive training programs, fosters collaboration among team members, and aligns with organizational priorities to enhance staff competencies and performanceTop of Form.
- Training Calendar Management: Create an annual training calendar comprising large- and small-scale training sessions and workshops, utilizing Lantern’s Relias Learning Management System to meet core competencies and fulfill funder-required training guidelines.
- Team Leadership: Provide guidance and direct supervision to the training team members, including the Lead Trainer (focused on training development and facilitation) and the Training Administrator (focused on Relias LMS administration and logistical coordination for training).
- Inter-Department Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership, Human Resources, Compliance, and Data Evaluation & Continuous Quality Improvement Teams to develop and oversee comprehensive training, learning, and capacity-building programs tailored to the diverse workforce at Lantern.
- Inclusive Program Design: Collaborate with staff at all levels and program participants to create training programs that are deeply inclusive and reflective of Lantern’s evidence-based approaches, valuing direct service experience and contextualized skills application
- Needs Assessment: Partner with site and team leadership to identify training and capacity gaps, overseeing the development of targeted professional development plans.
- Effectiveness Metrics: Establish meaningful metrics to track and report on the effectiveness of training initiatives; remain informed about best practices in adult learning and training evaluation; assist in preparing grant applications and reports to support Lantern's mission.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Develop systems for transparent monitoring and reporting on training initiative effectiveness, ensuring a proactive and creative approach to continuous improvement.
- Training Committee Leadership: Design and lead Lantern’s inclusive Training Committee, comprising diverse staff members and participant/consumer representation.
- Committee Participation: Actively engage as a member of Lantern’s representative bodies, including DEBI (Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion), Safety, and Harm Reduction Committees, as well as various working groups focused on clinical documentation, incident review, and policy.
- Community Engagement: Cultivate partnerships with community organizations, funders, and regulatory agencies to advocate for training initiatives; build relationships with external trainers to introduce specialized expertise; collaborate with sector partners to enhance high-quality practices and promote staff safety, well-being, and morale.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Mental Health, Social Sciences or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in training, curriculum development, or workforce development within the non-profit or social services field (ideally within the shelter and supportive housing sector).
- Significant experience engaged in practice and applied learning/teaching in Lantern’s foundational evidence-based approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, and Cultural Humility.
- Ability to build consensus and motivate others at all levels and functions of the agency
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously and to be responsive and proactive to changing needs and demands internally at Lantern and externally in the sector/field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Zoom/video-conferencing and other technical/online platforms.
- Demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice, health equity, and the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging; experience participating in DEIAB work/initiatives strongly preferred.
- Master’s Degree strongly preferred.
- LMSW/LCSW/LMHC preferred
- Experience with Relias LMS or other learning management systems, ETO, CARES/AWARDS, and other funder reporting databases preferred.
