What are the responsibilities and job description for the QEHS Engineer position at LAPP?

Summary: Under the general direction of the Quality Director, the QEHS Engineer will be responsible for driving quality and environmental, health & safety programs for the LAPP subsidiaries located in the Americas region, ensuring that all products and services meets regulatory and statutory requirements, customer requirements and industry standards. Furthermore, the QEHS Engineer will support in creating Free Trade Agreement Documentation, maintaining the C-TPAT certification, preparing reports and presentations on quality performance, and staying up to date on the latest quality, environmental, health and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Quality Control Process Development: Develop and maintain effective quality control processes, procedures, and documentation to ensure consistency and compliance with quality standards.
• Quality Control Inspections: Conduct regular inspections and audits of products, services, or processes to identify defects, deviations, and areas for improvement. Manage the disposition of nonconforming product.
• Quality Assurance: Work with Process Engineering and develop FMEA, Control Plans, and SPC measures.
• Internal System Audits: Conduct Internal Quality, Environmental, and Safety audits to identify quality, environmental, and safety issues, and to work on continuous improvement initiatives and corrective actions.
• Quality Standards Compliance: Ensure that products or services meet or exceed established quality standards, industry regulations, and customer requirements according to ISO standards / Corporate Directives
• Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data related to quality control, defects, and non-conformities. Use data-driven insights to improve processes and reduce defects.
• Root Cause Analysis: Investigate quality issues and non-conformities, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of quality control activities, including inspection reports, test results, compliance documentation and safety incidents. Generate QEHS reports for management and regulatory agencies when required.
• C-TPAT Compliance: Collaborate with the Logistics team and maintain the C-TPAT certification.
• Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the overall quality of products, and processes.
• Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to employees on quality control procedures, safety training programs and best practices. Ensure that the workforce is knowledgeable about quality standards.
• Environmental Management: Oversee environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives. Work with related business units to maintain RoHS, REACH, PFAS, TSCA, and Prop 65 compliance.
• Hazardous Materials Management: Monitor the safe storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste in compliance with regulations.
• Environmental Risk Management: Work with operational leaders and create Aspect/Impact registers per the latest revision of ISO 14001. Lead the implementation of actions that aims to reduce identified risks.
• Incident Investigation: Support the safety coordinator in investigating workplace accidents, near misses, or incidents to determine the root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Safety: Work with the safety coordinator and implement improvements to the current EHS system in compliance with ISO 45001.
• Liaison: Serve as a liaison between the organization and regulatory authorities, representing the company during safety inspections and audits.
COMPETENCIES:
• Problem Solving: Expertise in root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques to address quality issues and prevent recurrence.
• Project Management: Manage quality improvement projects, safety initiatives including planning, execution, monitoring, and completion.
• Technical Proficiency: Depending on the industry, knowledge of specific tools, software, or equipment relevant to quality control & assurance may be required.
• Quality and Safety Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track quality performance, Safety KPI’s and drive improvement.
• Communication: Effective communication skills to convey quality expectations, report findings, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Data Analysis: Proficiency in collecting and analyzing data related to manufacturing processes, performance metrics, and quality standards. Utilize data-driven decision-making to identify improvement opportunities.
• Change Management: Implement changes in quality, environmental and safety processes and systems smoothly and ensure employees adapt to new practices.
• Risk Assessment: Assess potential quality, safety & environmental risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
• Team Leadership: Strong leadership skills to guide cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with employees at all levels, fostering a culture of continuous improvement “Lead by Example”.
• Auditing Skills: Conduct internal audits to evaluate adherence to quality & safety standards and facilitate external audits by regulatory bodies or customers.
• Expertise in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Total Quality Management (TQM), Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), 8D report and Minitab statistical software.
• Experience with ISO 9001 standards.
• Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards is preferred.
• Understanding of UL and CSA standards is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university, preferably with a focus on Operations, or Engineering; or three (3 ) related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Certification in Quality; CQA, CQI or CQT is preferred.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Domestic and International travel is required. 10-15%.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Fluency in the English language, written and spoken is required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Proven skills and experience in problem solving methods (root cause analysis, corrective action, preventive action, 8D method, PDCA, 5 Why, …)
COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Lotus Notes, AS400, and NAFTA database software; SAP software; and be proficient in the use of Excel and Microsoft Word software for the use in creation of metric and maintenance of documents.

COMPENSATION: After thorough market analysis, LAPP takes many factors into consideration when determining base salary such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, etc. of the candidate. The base salary range for this role is $80,000 - $90,000 plus participation in LAPP's bonus plan.
