La Quinta by Wyndham Vancouver (Salmon Creek), WA is searching for an experienced Assistant General Manager. As a highly visible member of the hotel's leadership team, the Assistant General Manager serves as a key liaison for hotel guests and team members as a right hand to the General Manager, while concurrently leading the Front Office Team and ensuring the efficient operations of other departments such as Housekeeping, Engineering, and Food & Beverage. 

The Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, committed to provide all guests with quality service and a clean and safe environment throughout their stay, while effectively managing expenses and maximizing service levels.

The La Quinta by Wyndham, operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so operational demands require variations in shift days, starting and ending times, and hours worked in a week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures brand and company standards are communicated, understood, achieved and maintained.

  • Creates an operating environment that assures consistent guest satisfaction.

  • Monitors the performance of the hotel through verification and analysis of guest satisfaction systems and financial reports. Initiates corrective action.

  • Delivers results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the hotel by accomplishing performance objectives focused on business revenues, guest and associate satisfaction and effectiveness and efficiencies.

  • Ensures exceptional guest/employee relations.
  • Maximizes room revenues by anticipating and planning for market shifts; develops and monitors strategic marketing prospects; develops, implements and monitors annual business and marketing plans and participates in appropriate marketing efforts.
  • Develops and maintains rapport with key community contacts to ensure a visible presence in the local community.

  • Oversees the security function to ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, employees, and hotel assets.

  • Maintains a proactive human resources function to ensure employee motivation, training and development, and compliance with policies and procedures and labor regulations.

  • Monitors the performance of financial and operational plans for the hotel which support the overall objectives of the company.

  • Executes marketing, sales, and operational activities, producing results that meet or exceed the hotel’s business plan.
  • Helps develop the annual budget and makes recommendations for capital improvements to enhance the assets of the company and brand loyalty.

  • Understands all regulations to ensure the hotel is operated in compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and requirements of any federal, state or municipal authority.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.

  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with guests and coworkers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.

  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.

  • Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures and reports all unsafe activities to supervisor.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly oversees and supervises all positions of the Front Office. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Oversees the day-to-day operations of all front desk associates. Assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts and providing technical guidance on complex issues. Training and development of subordinate staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies with limited or no guidance.

Education and/or Experience

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus two years related experience.

  • A proven track record of meeting budgets, and cost/inventory control.
  • Management experience preferred and a sales background is a plus.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and PC (Windows-based software) skills will be required.

  • Language Skills: Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be able to read and interpret simple and complex documents, reports, manuals and correspondence. Must be able to write simple and complex documents, reports, and correspondence. Must be able to speak effectively with clear speech to individuals and groups. Multilingual skills helpful but not required.

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Computer Skills: Job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software.

  • Reasoning Ability: Must be able to apply common-sense logic and understanding to carry out instructions provided in written and/or oral form. Must have the ability to solve problems involving several variables in given situations and interpret a variety of instructions provided in written and/or oral form. Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, sound judgment and decision-making.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles.
