This is a part-time, temporary position.

Job Summary Core responsibilities of this position include

The Food Pantry and Garden Assistant actively supports the daily operations of the campus food pantry and the maintenance of the campus garden during the summer. This position will directly support students by processing donations, organizing pantry items, distributing food, and growing produce in the garden. This Assistant will be responsible for office hours within the campus food pantry, a weekly staff meeting, and overseeing the food pantry and LCCC garden.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Compensation $13.33 per hour.

Start Date Spring/2025.

Essential Functions - this position is Non-Exempt, i.e., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

  • Ensure the food pantry is easily accessible to students and runs smoothly by maintaining an organized, clean space and sufficient inventory.
    • Help students access the food pantry, stock shelves, manage and sort donations, and enter data into a spreadsheet
  • Contribute to the sustainability of the campus food pantry by growing and maintaining the campus garden that produces fresh, healthy food for distribution.
    • Assist with planting, weeding, watering, mulching garden beds, and harvesting vegetables, herbs, and fruits
  • Enhance campus engagement by supporting the Office of Student Engagement and actively participating in promoting and attending campus events.
    • Attend and help at events, share information about upcoming events with students, and participate in weekly staff meetings.
Physical/Mental Demands

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to

  • Ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • Frequently required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities.
  • Multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Current LCCC student and continued enrollment in a minimum of 6 credits a semester, (exceptions may be given for summer term with supervisor approval)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite


Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in gardening
  • One year of volunteer experience in a food pantry
