SUMMARY: The job of Sign Language Interpreter is done for the purpose/s of facilitating communication between persons who are deaf and/or hard of hearing and others; conveying teacher instruction; assisting students with daily activities; providing voice to sign and sign to voice support; participating as a team member to plan, review and share information; and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with students who are hard of hearing and/or deaf.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing students, school staff, peers and others by facilitating communication, spoken and signed, through sign language.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
One to two years of related experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
Educational Sign Language Interpreter permit issued through Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board
Criminal background check required for hire.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:
Oral and written communication skills
English language skills
Fluency in and skill using American Sign Language (ASL), Pidgin Signed English (PSE), Manually Coded English (MCE) and Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE)Interpersonal relations skills
Basic math skills
Personal computer and keyboarding skills
Bilingual oral and written communication skills may be required or preferred.
Ability to interpret receptively and expressively.
Knowledge of students with special needs.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
Operating knowledge of and experience with deaf and hard of hearing adaptive services and equipment
Basic operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, peripherals and media equipment
Basic operating knowledge of and experience with office software
Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc.
