SUMMARY: Under the direction of a certified teacher, provides support to the operation of and instructional programs within the assigned library/media center. Duties include assisting teachers, students, and administrators in identifying resource materials; performing circulation activities; conducting classes and/or activities for students; maintaining databases; and maintaining the full library/media collection of library books, periodicals, hardware/software, media equipment, and related instructional materials.

2. Performs circulation activities, including materials check-in/out, shelving, circulation count, and overdue monitoring, for the purpose of controlling the use, location, and availability of items in the collection.

3. Conducts a variety of classes and/or activities for students to promote library skills and the enjoyment of literature. Models conversations, manners, active listening, organizational skills, problem solving strategies, and everyday interaction to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.

4. Imports, exports, and updates databases related to collection, statistics, orders, budgets, overdue lists, etc. Prepares and submits manual and electronic documents and reports as required.

5. Maintains collection of library books, periodicals, hardware/software, media equipment, and related instructional materials by logging into master files, barcoding, and inventorying. Evaluates all materials for retention, repair, replacement, retirement, or purging. Repairs books/materials and orders supplies and equipment as needed.

6. Monitors and supervises students in a variety of settings, including library, classrooms, playground, lunchroom, halls, bus loading/unloading, etc. Implements various levels of discipline in accordance with school district and building policies for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.

7. Confers with certified teacher to assist in the evaluation of student progress, success, and recordkeeping. Provides verbal feedback and/or written documentation and reports observations and incidents related to specific students. Maintains manual and electronic files and records as required.

8. Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No experience required
- Experience working with school age children preferred
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
- Criminal background check required for hire
- First Aid certification preferred

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
- Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals preferred; required within 2 months after hire
- Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc. preferred; required within 2 months after hire
- Operating knowledge of and experience with office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, etc. preferred
