Purpose Statement
The job of Principal - Junior High School is done for the purpose/s of managing school administrative functions; developing and managing school budgets; implementing policies, procedures, and/or processes; directing building-level curriculum and instruction; monitoring student performance; establishing and fostering an adult learning environment; facilitating communication between personnel, students and/or parents; representing the school within community forums; supervising personnel; delegating responsibility for a variety of administrative functions; and chairing meetings.
This Job reports to Assigned Supervisor
Essential Functions
- Chairs meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.
- Collaborates with district administration on district, federal, and state programs that impact student achievement for the purpose of ensuring student success and compliance with policies, statutes, and regulations.
- Delegates responsibility for a variety of administrative functions to Assistant Principal and/or other personnel for the purpose of accomplishing assigned responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
- Develops and manages school budgets for the purpose of maintaining programs within budget limits and accurately reporting fiscal information.
- Directs building-level curriculum and instruction for the purpose of increasing student achievement and meeting objectives.
- Establishes and fosters an adult learning environment for the purpose of providing instructional staff with tools and materials to increase student learning.
- Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving issues, developing interventions, and/or resolving conflicts.
- Implements policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
- Manages a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, safety and security practices, building and facilities usage, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district and state policies and maintaining the safety and efficiency of school operations.
- Manages school administrative functions (e.g. facility use and maintenance, safety, staffing, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining clean, safe, and efficient school operations within budget and district guidelines.
- Monitors student performance utilizing objective and verifiable data for the purpose of analyzing and assessing effective educational strategies resulting in areas of student growth, determining areas and methods for improvement, and/or identifying opportunities to enhance professional development.
- Oversees school level personnel hiring of certified and classified staff in cooperation with district Human Resources staff for the purpose of ensuring qualified candidates fill roles within the school.
- Participates in, or facilitates, committees, workshops, seminars, and trainings (e.g. personnel actions, Board meetings, professional development, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting staff, conveying and/or gathering information, and serving as a school representative.
- Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. reports, student activities, schedules, surveys, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
- Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals, encouraging and promoting community involvement and outreach, and/or assisting with issues related to the school environment.
- Researches current trends in curriculum, instruction, and assessment for the purpose of maintaining current knowledge and enhancing student achievement.
- Supervises personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, and achieving overall objectives of school's curriculum.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 85% walking, 5% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience: Job related experience within a specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required in public education teaching with multiple, consecutive years experience as an administrator, preferably at the middle school level.
Education (Preferred): Successful completion of a Principal Licensure program; valid Wyoming Principal License required.
Education: Masters degree in job-related area with an emphasis in public education.
