Job Summary:
This position is directly responsible for supporting the operations of the cafeteria, including food preparation, cooking, serving and clean-up. It may also include some administrative functions such as completing student checklist, copying, etc.
Essential Duties:
· Provides assistance to the Food Services Coordinator and the School Director, in preparing and maintaining appropriate documentation for tracking and reporting of the necessary information required to meet the standards for school meals reimbursement program and the LYFS meal subsidy program for employees.
· Assists in the maintenance of kitchen and cafeteria areas to ensure a safe and sanitary environment that meets VT Health Department standards.
· Assist with the preparation and serving of daily meals for the students and staff of LYFS.
· Assist with the special events catering for LYFS, which may include hours outside of the normal workday, including an occasional evening or weekend.
· Serve as back-up for Cafeteria Services Staff – including coverage for vacations, sick days, etc.
· Perform other associated Food Service duties as assigned by the Director of Educational Programs.
· Schedule is somewhat flexible from 2-4 hours daily, up to 20 hours per week with the potential to fill in as a substitute for absences of other team members.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Education is equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or attained GED.
- Minimum of 1 years of relevant work experience in a public cafeteria/kitchen setting.
- Knowledge of food preparation and standards of sanitation and safety.
- Knowledge of cafeteria equipment and operation
Special Position Requirements:
- Must successfully complete background checks.
- Planning skills for forecasting cooking time, ordering of food supplies, and determining quantity of food to prepare.
- Common arithmetic skills for counting and measuring.
- Strong communication skills to work with a diverse population.
Work/Physical Requirements:
- Work involves medium-heavy lifting of boxes, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, maneuvering and prolonged standing and walking; work involves exposure to hot and cold temperatures, chemicals and smells commonly associated with cooking, cleaning and school in general.
- Ability to regularly lift, push and pull up to 50lbs.
Preferred Skills
· First Aid & CPR Certified
