The mission of the Larchmont Yacht Club is to instill and enhance an interest in yachting and the spirit of sportsmanship in members and their families. Encourage and provide programs for members and their families to promote and support yacht racing in the Corinthian spirit. Support a program of yacht racing events that meets the expectations of members and their families and enhances the reputation of the Club as a prestigious center of yachting and yacht racing. Encourage and provide compatible leisure and sporting activities, including intra and inter club competitions. Provide an active and enjoyable family-oriented social environment which members and their families will support, and in which they can participate, with pride and enthusiasm.
The Dockhand’s main function is to operate and maintain the LYC docks. This includes attending to the fuel dock, assisting members docking their vessels and using work dock utilities, selling ice, and maintaining the cleanliness of the dry dock area. The Dockhand is also a member of the Marine Facilities team and may be called upon to assist with projects in the boatyard and on the water. This role is an entry level position and will offer many opportunities to learn the basics of the maritime trade and how to operate safely on the water. As a Dockhand at LYC you will be a representative of the club and directly interfacing with members and guests, professionalism and a positive attitude are required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend to and run the fuel dock
- Periodically clean fuel dock and dry sail area.
- Monitor and maintain kayak and SUP racks.
- Assist members using the pump out system
- Ensure safety of members on the water.
- Assist with members and staff with the safe dockage of private yachts and vessels. General boat yard maintenance.
- Assist boat owners and club members to ensure safety and satisfaction.
- Maintain and clean docks, walkways, ramp ways, equipment, and other areas in the boatyard. Maintain an inventory of supplies as needed.
- Assist and support special events/activities taking place at the club.
- Perform frequent trash removal from docks and waste cans and move to dumpsters as directed. Assist in Frostbiting if staying through the winter season.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Team player, customer service skills
- Limited Masters/Launch Certificate Preferred
- Up to date CPR/ first aid certification
- NASBLA Safe Boating Certification a plus
Salary : $17 - $20
