Job Summary Overview
The primary responsibility as a lifeguard is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Lifeguards must be able to ensure the safety of swimmers by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. A lifeguard is responsible for surveying a body of water and conducting rescues to help weak or injured swimmers get to safety. Their duties include speaking with swimmers to enforce swimming rules, keeping track of each swimmer in the water and administering first aid to injured swimmers.

Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations.

Participates in pool safety programs and risk management.

Employs only those methods and teaching techniques outlined and approved by the American Red Cross.

Adequate knowledge of and training in rescue and surveillance techniques, CPR/AED, blood-borne pathogens and pool chemistry.
Job Summary: (Essential Functions)

Implement all water safety policies and procedures.

Supervise members and guests in and around the swimming pool.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Job Tasks/Duties:

Implements all pool safety procedures.
-
Supervises and observes swimmers at all times to ensure their safety.

Enforces rules of conduct at the pool.

Administers care to swimmers’ minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises.

Checks first aid supplies and reports needed items to Head Guard or Pool Director.

Performs required pool pre-opening duties. Places rescue tube on the lifeguard chair in the morning; returns this and all swimming aids and pool toys to storage locker when the pool closes.

Straightens the pool areas at the end of the day.

Vacuums pool bottom; empties automatic skimmer; skims bugs and other debris from surface to prepare pool for daily use.

Maintains all necessary records determined by the Pool Director.

Attends all meetings as directed by the Pool Director, including daily end of shift meeting.

Implements all pool safety procedures.

Informs Pool Director or his/her designee about unresolved member or guest disruptions that could cause a safety problem.

Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Pool Director and or other Senior Leadership Manager, including General Manager.

Wears club issued uniform correctly, at all times while on club property.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:

Some High School required.

Ability to swim laps and dive to the bottom of the pool.
Licenses and Special Requirements

Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate.

Including First Aid, and CPR/FPR

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and/or crouch.

Continuous repetitive motions.

Physical exertion over long periods of time.

Work in hot and humid environment.

Push, pull and lift 50 pounds.

Working conditions are often, hot, humid slippery and wet.

Able to work in a busy, noisy environment.

Able to tolerate the smell of chlorine and frequent exposure to cleaning agents.
Job Type: Part-Time/Seasonal
Pay:$16.50 to $19.50 per hour
Expected Hours: 25-35 per week
