Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Human Resources and the Executive Director of Human Resources, assists with the administration of employee benefits and retirement, processing leave requests, managing accommodation requests, handling exit processing, and reporting state and government benefits. Develops, expedites, and maintains files, records, and other documents. Performs benefit and leave processes requiring good judgment. Uses good human-relations and problem-solving skills in the application of established policies and procedures. Exercises responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of benefits, deductions and other related matters. Provides day-to-day advice, assistance, and follow-up to departments, employees, external agencies, and/or members of the general public in the application of specified policies, procedures, and documentation.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
2. Prepares documents and composes correspondence, as required, on specific policy and procedural issues.
3. Processes employee enrollment, changes, termination of benefit plans.
4. Assists with coordinating open enrollment periods and facilitate benefit presentations.
5. Processes and tracks leave requests (status, documentation, and leave balances) to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
6. Assists with the interactive process for reasonable accommodations, maintains documentation, requests, and actions taken.
7. Assists with employee exit process and interviews, including collecting and maintaining documentation and feedback.
8. Processes separation documentation needed by Payroll to finalize employee final paychecks and benefit termination.
9. Prepares and submits required reports for state and government benefit programs (TRS, ACA etc.) timely.
10. Assists with the administration of retirement plan enrollments, changes, and terminations.
11. Ensures compliance with all reporting deadlines and requirements.
12. Responds to inquiries regarding procedures, programs, and general questions.
13. Supports with general HR benefit training.
14. Assist with the New Employee Orientation and departmental projects.
15. Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
16. Assists Human Resources team with requests, projects and reports as needed.
17. Assists in Human Resources College wide activities such as Convocation, In-Service, Employee Recognition ceremony, etc.
18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required:
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree in business, computer information systems, accounting or related field; or a combination of degree and experience may substitute degree; or certification in office, technical or computer training and one-year related experience.
- One to Three years of human resources and/or employee benefits and leave administration experience.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Preferred:
- Experience in payroll, benefits, staffing, or accounting.; Experience in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
- Office and/or Computer related training certificates.
- Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and other relevant employment laws.
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
- Possess excellent telephone, written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of office administration procedures.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Must be familiar with technology, personal computer and related software applications.
- Must have strong attention to detail, maintain high level of accuracy, and possess solid organizational skills.
- Able to work independently, prioritize work flows, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to understand and follow oral and written direction.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees within the Human Resources department/division, employees of other divisions, and general public.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Proficiency in using a variety of computer software applications, especially Excel and Microsoft Word software. (MS Office programs).

Assists with supervising student employees assigned to the Human Resources Office.

Assistant Human Resources Director/Benefits & Leave Analyst and Executive Director of Human Resources.
Physical Requirements
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing and walking between work areas may be required.
Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator and to operate standard office equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds .

Work is performed in a standard office environment.
