Job Summary
The Radiology Assistant supports the Imaging staff in providing patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of the radiology department. Responsibilities include preparing patients for imaging procedures, maintaining equipment, managing patient records, and assisting with various administrative tasks. This role is essential in facilitating efficient workflow and delivering high-quality radiologic services.
Essential Functions
- Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command.
- Communicates appropriate information to lead staff member, supervisor or director in a timely manner.
- Ensures supplies and equipment for patient care are readily available and organized in an efficient manner.
- Correctly identifies and uses appropriately personal protective equipment.
- Seeks information/guidance from others as needed.
- Ensures continuity of professional care.
- Accurately monitors and records patient information, test results and stats.
- Provides care to assigned patients including the activities of daily living, non-medication pain management and other interventions.
- Accurately follows patient care policies, practices and protocols i.e. sterile technique and skin care protocol.
- Cleans equipment as directed.
- Participates in new staff orientation and serves as mentor to students.
- Actively participates in the development and implementation of process improvements.
- Correctly and thoroughly orders unit supplies, ensuring minimal shortages.
- Responds to patient and family requests promptly. Compassionately speaks with patient's family members on the telephone and in person.
- Accurately performs order entry into the computer system.
- Professionally answers telephone in a courteous, timely manner. Responds to or routes calls and inquiries to appropriate personnel. Provides customer information within scope of knowledge.
- Rapidly retrieves labs, consults, and reports from the printer and distributes them to the appropriate chart.
- Efficiently assists physicians with labs, patient lists, etc.
- Correctly prioritizes work assigned, handling STAT orders immediately and following up on urgent needs.
- Prepares patients' charts for admit/ discharge/transfers and communicates with appropriate departments as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Less than 2 years experience as patient care assistant or unit secretary in hospital based setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors at all times
- Proficiency in performing advanced imaging procedures.
- Knowledge of radiology equipment and technology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Licenses and Certifications
- BCLS - Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire required
- CPCA - Certified Patient Care Assistant preferred
- CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
