Part-Time Juvenile and Diversion Legal Assistant

Larimer County
Fort Collins, CO Part Time
POSTED ON 1/8/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/6/2025
Overview

Our District Attorney's Office is hiring a Legal Assistant!

The Juvenile Division of the District Attorney's Office seeks someone to join our team and support our professional staff. In this role, you'll handle essential tasks like case data entry, preparing and processing legal documents, and sharing critical information with the court and other criminal justice agencies. You’ll also provide confidential administrative support to our Diversion and Juvenile teams, with occasional assistance to the Problem-Solving Court staff.

We’re looking for someone who thrives on communication, is proactive about learning and training, and enjoys taking the initiative. This role could be a perfect fit if multitasking and teamwork energize you!

This is a part-time position with a 20-hour workweek. Flexibility is key; you’ll need to be available during trials when required. Our office operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and after a 90-day probationary period, you may have the option to telecommute 1-2 days per week.

Applicants must upload a cover letter addressed to Cherie Jurkofsky, Legal Staff Manager.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing confidential administrative support to professional legal staff by drafting, preparing, proofreading, and verifying a variety of legal documents, including reports, letters, pleadings, motions, affidavits, jury instructions, and subpoenas, often using established templates and forms.
  • Handling calls and inquiries by responding to general complaints and requests for information, conducting research to address specific questions, interpreting basic policies and regulations, and routing complex matters to the appropriate staff or agency.
  • Coordinating legal activities and documentation with judicial systems, penal systems, and other agencies to ensure smooth communication and compliance.
  • Managing attorney calendars by scheduling events, meetings, and deadlines, notifying participants, confirming dates, arranging meetings, and preparing and distributing agendas and materials. You may also attend meetings and hearings, taking and distributing minutes as needed.
  • Preparing summaries and reports, conducting routine research, and organizing case materials to support trial preparation.
  • Scheduling screening appointments for legal staff, maintaining related records, and preparing case files for new cases, including researching prior and pending cases and filing them with the Court as required.
  • Reviewing incoming documents such as Motions, Writs, Orders, and Notices for accuracy, ensuring deadlines are identified and met, and managing the flow of critical correspondence.
