TITLE : Head Coach
REPORTS TO : Athletic Director and Principal
SUPERVISES : Assistant coaches, student managers, trainers, and players
JOB FUNCTION : The Head Coach is responsible for helping each participating student-athlete achieve a
high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an
increased level of self-esteem. It is expected that this role will empower the coach with
the ability to provide the student with an atmosphere in which each person is treated with.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Responsible to the Athletic Director for all matters relating to the organization, administration and philosophy of the sport under his / her direction.
- Organizes, directs, and supervises a total sport program.
- Acts as a positive role model on and off the court / field / site, etc.
- Instructs student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies and physical conditioning necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success in the sport involved.
- Adheres to the KHSAA Handbook, regulations, policies, LaRue County Schools Coaches Handbook, and district policies and procedures.
- Maintains competency in KHSAA rules, event procedures, coaching techniques and general information about all aspects of the sport.
- Works cooperatively with all LaRue County Schools coaches, athletic director, students, and staff to ensure healthy, positive relationships.
- Recommends to the Athletic Director teams that may be scheduled. Works closely with the Athletic Director to schedule facility use.
- Secures the Athletic Director's approval before scheduling non-school facilities for off-campus activities.
- Works with the coaches and / or Athletic Director to plan transportation and appropriate supervision at away contests in compliance with district travel policy and guidelines.
- Conducts self in an appropriate professional manner, serving as a role model for the student-athletes and represents the school in a favorable manner.
- Serves in a leadership capacity within the school and community.
- Understands the proper administrative line of command; refers all requests or grievances through proper channels; and is aware of all public / staff / departmental meetings that require his / her attendance.
- Develops a consistent and positive communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about his / her sport.
- Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual student-athletes.
- Is responsible for keeping practice periods for the sport within the confines of the time specified by the Athletic Director.
- Responsible for a complete inventory of equipment used for the sport and for submitting a summary of the yearly program with all necessary reports for the end of the season data.
- Responsible to be available to assist in preparing practice and game field / court for practice or games.
- Gives constant attention to a student-athlete's grades and conduct.
- Directs assistant coaches, student managers,and statisticians.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
- Promotes a harassment-free environment for players and coaches and ensures that no bullying / hazing occurs in his / her sport.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork.
- Performs other duties which may be assigned by the Athletic Director and / or Principal.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Must be 21 years of age. Must have a high school diploma. A minimum of 64 semester hours from an accredited college or university and one year experience coaching in a school athletic program.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
Successful completion of a criminal records check; KHSAA Rules Clinic for respective sport; KHSAA Sports Safety Course; and current certification in first aid and CPR.
