Position Description:
Las Américas ASPIRA Academy is seeking a highly qualified, enthusiastic individual to provide visual arts instruction to students aligned to the Delaware Visual Arts Standards. The successful candidate will have excellent people skills, be self-motivated, have demonstrated ability to work well with children and adults. This position reports to the Principal.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Teach Art to students in grades 9 through 12.
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students and aligns to Delaware visual arts standards.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide reports as required, as well as notifying parents of student progress when necessary.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation.
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after school art club.
- Work cooperatively with all staff and parents.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration.
Qualifications:
- Certified as a Delaware Visual Arts Teacher by the State of Delaware.
- Knowledge of Delaware Visual Arts Standards, Assessment and Accountability.
- Knowledge of best practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills.
- Criminal background check.
- Tuberculin testing and health verification.
