Salary Information:
The salary for this position is negotiated through a collective bargaining agreement. All new employees will be hired at the minimum salary in the range and will be eligible for merit increases until reaching the maximum salary in the range.

Definition
Incumbents perform jail institutional support in specified inmate program areas. Assigned tasks consist of the following: fingerprint inmates, conduct inmate clothing and property exchange; file, store and issue inmate property and uniforms; screen social, legal, and official visitors to the detention facility; sort and process detention facility mail; perform intake, receipt, and return of inmate money and property to detention facility inmates; maintain detention services files; and supervise inmate workers in facility laundry operation.

Training, Education and Experience
- One year of full-time clerical, warehousing, customer service, institutional support service, or law enforcement support work experience and a typing speed of 25 wpm (after errors).
- Possession of a high school diploma or a General Education Diploma (GED).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. using appropriate equipment and procedures over short distances and up/down stair type ladders.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Nevada driver license.
- Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the date of the first test instrument
- Be at least 18 years old by the date of the first test instrument
- Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or "gauging" their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches except for hands, neck, head, or face tattoos. Makeup is not permissible to cover a tattoo. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
- All Detention Services Division (DSD) employees will be required to complete a tuberculosis test. New employees and LVMPD employees transferring to DSD are required to, within 14 days of being hired or transferred, undergo an annual tuberculosis testing/screening, per NRS, and every 12 months thereafter. Employees who are past positive testers are required to provide medical documentation of testing/treatment records.
- Work any hours and shifts, including holidays, weekends, and regular days off, based on operational needs.
- Attend American Corrections Association approved training to obtain certification for maintaining direct inmate contact and maintain said certification thereafter.
- Maintain an appropriate Nevada Driver License.
- Vision sufficient to read the computer screen, as well as fine prints in documents.
- Hearing sufficient to hear conversations and directions in person and over the telephone and radio.
- Dexterity and mobility sufficient to operate standard office equipment, institutional laundry machines, and warehouse equipment; operate motorized vehicles; climb ladders and stairs.
- Agility sufficient to twist, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, jump, reach forward, and reach overhead.
- Strength and mobility sufficient to lift and carry inmate property, other items, and bags of inmate clothing for laundry weighing up to 50 lbs., as well as push and pull loaded carts.
- Endurance sufficient to sit or stand for prolonged periods to complete assigned tasks; stand and move around while working indoors, outdoors or within confined space; and/or to wear a mask in special situations.

**Due to security reasons, personal belongings permitted in the testing facility will be limited. Items such as large backpacks, briefcases, duffle bags or similar items may not be allowed. Those items permitted will be left to the discretion of the LVMPD employees administering the examination and may be subject to a search.

If you successfully complete the above selection process, you will undergo a thorough background investigation, including a polygraph exam. A polygraph examination can be stressful and may affect existing medical or psychological conditions or ongoing treatment.
