INTRODUCTION : Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The successful candidate may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.

The ideal candidate would possess 5 or more years of journey-level experience performing installations, testing, maintenance and repair of cathodic protection systems; be able to perform infrastructure assessments for a large water utility using remote operating CCTV vehicles; have experience with data mining and using large data sets to trend asset condition; and exhibit working knowledge of water chemistry and water sample field testing for parameters such as chlorine, pH, temperature and conductivity.

Candidate must be proficient with software programs such as Excel, Power Point and Bluebeam.

The ideal candidate would possess AMPP NACE CP1 Cathodic Protection Certified Tester.

The ideal candidate would also demonstrate the ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, work on top of tanks and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Additionally, be comfortable working independently or in a team environment.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of advanced technical duties in the inspection, testing, installation, maintenance and repair of cathodic protection systems for water production, treatment, transmission and distribution facilities; develops GPS database containing locations of all cathodic protection equipment and test stations; and performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of :

Principles, theories, methods, equipment, materials and techniques relating to corrosion control and cathodic protection for a large potable water production, treatment and transmission system; specifications and requirements for water pipeline and tank protective coatings; relevant electrical and electronic testing equipment and devices; global positioning system equipment and software; relevant personal computer applications and GPS interfacing equipment; tools, equipment, regulations and codes pertaining to cathodic protection and corrosion control.

Ability to :

Use tools, equipment and materials used in installing, modifying, testing, maintaining and repairing cathodic protection systems; adapt established practices, procedures and principles of cathodic protection and corrosion control systems and materials to particular problems, conditions and service needs for large water works facilities; deal tactfully and effectively with others encountered in the work; keep records and make reports; understand and work from plans, schematics, drawings, blueprints, sketches and oral and written work orders; prepare diagrams and sketches.

Training and Experience :

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is three years of journey-level experience in the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of cathodic protection systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements :

A valid Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Certification as a CP-1 by the AMPP or the ability to obtain the certification within one year from date of hire.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear; walk or sit; climb and work up to heights of 100 feet; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and frequently over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Some incumbents may be required to pass and maintain a breathing test at 80 percent or higher, lift in a two-person lift a 250-pound chlorine cylinder into an upright position; perform shutoffs and other repairs while wearing SCBA and other protective clothing and equipment.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use shop mathematics; observe and interpret situations; deal with changing, intensive deadlines; and interact with officials and the public.
