What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compliance Inspector position at Las Virgenes Municipal Water District?
Under general supervision of the Technical Services Supervisor, the Compliance Inspector performs inspections of commercial and industrial construction projects associated with sewer connections for billing purposes and assists with inspections of District systems and facilities.
The recruitment process will consist of an application screening, 1st round (structured) interview, and 2nd round (selection) interview. The tentative date ranges for the interviews are listed below:
1st Round Interview Date Range: March 31 - April 4, 2025
2nd Round Interview Date Range: April 14 - 18, 2025
Candidates will be notified of their status in the recruitment process via e-mail.
Performs count of plumbing fixtures in commercial buildings to determine correct sewer connection fees; reviews city/county building and safety inspection log books to determine properties to be inspected; assists in reviewing plumbing plans; schedules and conducts physical inspections.
Develops letters in support of tenant improvements, plan checks, and inspection letters.
Inspects newly installed fire backflow assemblies and places them in operation.
Performs district wide monitoring of new tenant construction and compliance.
Assists with inspection of sanitary sewers and water systems, including pump stations, treatment facilities, wastewater reclamation facilities, and construction activities performed by the District and outside entities within and near District facilities.
Assists with installation inspections of fire backflow systems to District standards; assists with installation inspections of cross connection devices while ensuring conformance with District rules and regulations and the prevention of cross connections; assists the facilities inspector with inspections for capital improvement and development projects.
Ensures district facilities are in compliance with current public health and safety policies, procedures and practices.
Prepares and maintains records and reports, such as record of commercial fixture counts.
- Uniform plumbing code;
- District rates, rules and regulations relating to water and sewer connections, annexations and record keeping;
- Relevant water regulations regarding the use of recycled water;
- Water distribution facilities, including mains, hydrants, meters, valves and other equipment;
- Applicable safety and health standards, practices, policies, and procedures.
- Read engineering plans and specifications; make thorough inspections, compare plans filed to actual installations;
- Calculate and collect correct connections charges;
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Work independently and prioritize work to meet deadlines and priorities;
- Learn and apply new information and technology;
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Prepare and maintain records and reports;
- Establish and maintain working relationships with employees, customers, and other government agencies;
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting software including word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database applications;.
- Perform work in a safe manner and in compliance with safety and health standards, practices, policies, and procedures.
- Sufficient eyesight to read fine statistical reports and standard text and data on computer terminal screens;
- Ability to speak and hear at normal conversational levels in person and over the telephone;
- Manual dexterity to write legibly and to use calculators, computer terminal, and other general office machines;
- Ability to lift and carry up to approximately twenty-five pounds; reach, bend, or crouch to use files and records;.
- Ability to operate vehicles and drive to various locations throughout the District’s service area.
