What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Design Support Specialist position at LaSalle Network?
The Instructional Design Support Specialist is responsible for supporting senior members of the Instructional Design team using sound instructional principles to create and manage the design and maintain online courseware and related materials. The Instructional Design Support Specialist uses interpersonal skills and experience partnering with Curriculum department members and key stakeholders while efficiently supporting timelines and projects.
The Instructional Design Support Specialist reports to the Senior Manager of Instructional Design.
Instructional Design Support Specialist Responsibilities:
- Applies adult learning theory to create solutions which encourage an interactive, engaging, and thought-provoking learning environment
- Utilizes adopted instructional design model (ADDIE, SAM, AGILE, etc.) to develop engaging, interactive centralized curriculum components
- Provides curriculum recommendations, including but not limited to content alignment, arrangement, sequencing, and purpose/use of assessment
- Communicates often with peers and manager to discuss projects and timelines, taking initiative to problem-solve and adjust timelines to proactively remain ahead of deadlines
- Demonstrates time management, flexibility, critical thinking, self-reflection, and an overall growth mindset when facing challenges, barriers, or opportunities for improvement
- Effectively present information through emails, job-aids, one voice documents, presentations, face to face/virtual trainings, focus groups, etc.
- Reviews deliverables for adherence to instructional design principles and established templates and standards and maintain design tools, templates, and standards
- Research learning and development best practices and proactively identify new strategies, technologies and content that improve program performance
- Applies technical writing skills to create storyboards, assignments, discussion prompts, and scripts for animations, videos, and modules
- Effectively partners with Subject Matter Experts, contractors, editors, and peers to move projects forward in timely manner
- Communicates professionally with peers, manager and key stakeholders across the institution
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
Instructional Design Support Specialist Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree (Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design/Technology) or equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Quality Matters certification)
- Online course content development experience
- Experience working with a Learning Management System
- Demonstrated ability to apply principles of adult learning, learning preferences, and various instructional design approaches and processes to the learning content
- General experience with authoring tools (e.g, Articulate, Lectora, Camtasia, Captivate)
- Able to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams
- Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment
- Master's degree (Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design/Technology) or equivalent education/job experience (e.g. Quality Matters certification)
- Previous online content development experience in higher education
- Experience working with D2L Brightspace
- Demonstrated expertise in project management and meeting facilitation skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management and organizational skills

- Strong work ethic
- Appropriately prioritize and organize to complete all job responsibilities in a timely manner
