We are seeking a skilled and experienced Directional Bore Expert to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating specialized equipment to install underground utilities using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) techniques. The candidate must have a deep understanding of bore plans, soil types, and utility installation, and ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to client specifications.

Pre-Construction Planning:
- Review and interpret bore plans, blueprints, and utility maps to ensure proper execution of projects.
- Conduct site surveys to assess soil conditions, potential obstacles, and existing underground utilities.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop efficient drilling strategies.
Equipment Operation:
- Operate and maintain directional drilling rigs, locating systems, and other associated equipment.
- Execute horizontal directional drilling operations for utility installation, including telecommunications, gas, water, and electrical lines.
- Monitor and adjust equipment settings to achieve the desired bore path and depth.
Utility Installation:
- Perform utility installation and verify placement accuracy using locating and tracking systems.
- Safely pull back conduits, pipes, and cables after pilot hole completion.
- Implement proper reaming and drilling techniques to ensure smooth installations.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to OSHA and other applicable safety regulations at all times.
- Conduct regular equipment inspections and ensure all tools are in proper working condition.
- Ensure accurate documentation of project progress, including bore logs and as-built records.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Identify and resolve issues such as equipment malfunctions, soil instability, or borehole deviations.
- Adjust bore paths to avoid obstacles while maintaining alignment with project goals.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with ground crews, equipment operators, and other contractors to complete projects on time.
- Train and mentor junior crew members on HDD operations and safety practices.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Minimum of years of experience in horizontal directional drilling or related fields.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in operating HDD equipment and locating systems such as Vermeer.
- In-depth knowledge of utility installation procedures and underground utility mapping.
- Familiarity with soil types, drilling fluids, and their applications in HDD.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Certifications:
- OSHA 10/30 Certification (preferred).
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with a clean driving record.
- Relevant equipment operation certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
