POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager, Payroll reports to the Director of Financial Reporting and is based out of our Cherry Hill, NJ location. This individual will be responsible for the entire payroll process, from ensuring accurate and timely employee payments to maintaining tax compliance with tax and legal requirements. The Payroll Manager must also oversee payroll staff, and collaborate with other departments. They will provide support for payroll accounting and related regulatory reporting and filing requirements.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Manage the complete payroll cycle, including calculating salaries, deductions, taxes, and benefits, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing
- Keep with the financial standards for payroll by picking out any variances and issuing corrections, keeping records of expenditures and providing information for the formulation of annual budgets
- Maintain balance in payroll accounts by dealing with any discrepancies, starting journal entries and auditing information
- Collaborate with accounting to reconcile payroll ledgers and provide accurate payroll data for financial reporting
- Assist in payroll calculations, deductions, insurance coverage, wage garnishments, tax filings, and child support
- Audit payroll transactions to ensure all amounts and payment dates are accurate
- Maintain employee payroll documentation organized, up-to-date and accurate
- Prepare employee wage summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leaves, retirement savings and benefits.
- Provide support in tax calculation and filing for employees
- Review and recommend improvements to existing payroll procedures
- Investigate and resolve payroll-related issues from employees and other stakeholders, including any payroll related inquiries and requests from employees
- Analyze payroll problems and provide appropriate resolutions
- Stay updated on federal, state, and local payroll regulations to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and reporting requirements, including labor legislation and changes in employee insurance, benefit plan and tax regulations
- Coordinate with HR and Finance teams to carry out payroll processing
- Work closely with HR, accounting and other departments to resolve payroll-related issues and streamline processes
- Assist in audit operations and implement audit recommendations
- Coordinate and manage external audits, including 401k audit and filing of the 5500 for employee pension benefit plans
- Generate payroll reports and analyze payroll data
- Manage the annual year end W-2 reconciliation process
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned
- Manage and review in detail the annual bonus calculation
- Implement, maintain, and optimize payroll systems, including updates and upgrades to ensure efficient payroll operations
- Monitor payroll expenses and identify opportunities to optimize payroll costs

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage 2 to 3 employees
- : Supervise and mentor a team of payroll specialists, assigning tasks, providing training, and evaluating performance
- Regularly review payroll processes to identify and rectify errors, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
- Communicates job expectations; planning, monitoring, and assessing job results; coaching, and counseling employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, procedures, and productivity standards.
- Establishes strategic goals; identifying and evaluating trends; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 7 years of payroll experience
- Certified Payroll Professional certification
- Proven experience managing payroll operations for a large organization
- Deep understanding of payroll laws and regulations
- Expertise in payrolls systems and software
- Strong numerical skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in budget development and management
- Leadership abilities to manage and motivate a payroll team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical office setting; driving a motor vehicle and occasionally working in the field.
FREQUENT: sitting, upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity and light to moderate finger pressure to include extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending and stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials.
OCCASIONAL: squatting, kneeling, reach above and at shoulder height, moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing 20 – 35 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.
VISION: Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction.
HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
