Manufacturing Maintenance Technician

Summer Garden Food is a leading Food Manufacturing plant who are the makers of Gia Russa and G Hughes.  We are looking for an experience Maintenance Technician for our plant who has a strong background working in manufacturing plants working hands on with machines.  Electrical knowledge to include entry level PLC and welding is strongly preferred.  We are looking to fill a position on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday.

Position Summary

Maintain, repair and install equipment within the manufacturing plant as needed. Perform preventative maintenance to keep machines/equipment in good working order. Keep equipment in operating condition for the use of producing product. Assist facilities and production in producing a high quality product. 

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain & Repair Equipment:
  • Observe, train and create (when needed) safety procedures
  • Execute highly diversified duties to maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment in a safe manner
  • Perform maintenance tasks that include, but are not limited to, mechanical, electrical, welding, troubleshooting and repair of production machines. Not all inclusive
  • Troubleshoot / diagnose problems to make unscheduled or emergency repairs during production runs.
  • Test equipment and make adjustments
  • Repair / replace / modify machines or equipment to improve performance
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment to ensure proper maintenance of machines
  • Create instructions on proper maintenance procedures.
  • Locate replacement parts using existing plant systems
  • Report daily maintenance activities to be recorded
• Preventative Maintenance:
  • Use a check sheet to perform regular preventive maintenance tasks on production and facilities equipment. Return the check sheet to maintenance personnel to be recorded.
  • Dismantle and reassemble machines to test damaged parts and mark defective areas
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Create new or modify existing check sheets to improve machine performance
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situation to proper supervision
  • Bench test, or prepare components for installation
• Mentor and Assist:
  • Utilizing experience, give direction and potential solutions to Level 1 & 2 Technicians on how to resolve issue and maintain/repair equipment
• Facilities Maintenance:
  • Assist with maintenance of facility as needed
  • Create / maintain documentation of information
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
• Equipment Installs:
  • Oversee the Installation of equipment within the plant as needed
  • Assist with planning and selecting of new equipment
• Plant Operations:
  • Assist with maintaining the production schedule and compliance with safety / quality documentation
• All other necessary duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• Skilled Trade School Degree focused in Maintenance and/or 10 years minimum working experience performing maintenance technician duties at a manufacturing facility
• Strong technical capacity and familiar with Mechanical and Electrical controls
• Ability to diagnosis and troubleshoot
• Advanced understanding of variable frequency drives and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
• Excellent problem solving skills necessary; Possesses strong communication skills
• Regularly required to talk, hear and see; Manual dexterity; Reach with hands and arms.
• Specific vision ability required to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Required to be very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling & climbing all day
• Capability to climb above and below machines and work on ladders including scaffolds
• Ability to frequently lift and/or move items over 70 pounds
