Job Title: HR Director
Location: Napa, California
Reports to: CFO
About Us: Digital Beverage Group is one of the largest online wine companies, with a culture that blends the best of both Napa Valley and Silicon Valley. It's an entrepreneurial and fun environment with diverse people bringing great wine deals to wine drinkers all around the world. We operate multiple wine ecommerce websites including Last Bottle, Last Bubbles, and First Bottle among others. As we continue to grow beyond our current 115 headcount, we are looking for an experienced HR Director to join our team.
Position Overview: The HR Director will report directly to the CFO and will play a vital role in managing and improving our HR processes. This position will oversee the HR functions for our California and out of state locations. Areas of focus include employee relations, policy implementation, and culture development. The HR Director will hire and manage one HR Generalist and focus on overseeing payroll, employee engagement, compliance, and creating a positive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employee Relations:
- Act as the primary HR contact for employees and management, handling inquiries and concerns related to HR functions, benefits, policies, procedures, and practices.
- Manage conflict resolution and provide guidance on complex employee relations matters to ensure fair and consistent treatment across the organization.
- Create and maintain a positive work environment by fostering open communication and building strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Policy and Procedure Implementation:
- Oversee the implementation and enforcement of company policies, ensuring that they are aligned with legal requirements and best practices.
- Review and update employee handbooks, policies, and procedures as needed to reflect current labor laws and company goals.
- Ensure that policies are communicated effectively to all employees and consistently applied throughout the organization.
- Payroll and Benefits Administration:
- Oversee and assist with payroll processing, ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws and company policies.
- Work closely with the HR Generalist to ensure accurate processing of payroll, deductions, and taxes.
- Manage benefits administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and employee wellness programs.
- Culture Building and Employee Engagement:
- Drive culture-building initiatives that align with company values, promote employee satisfaction, and enhance morale.
- Performance Management:
- Support the annual performance review process, assisting managers with setting expectations and providing feedback.
- Manage employee development initiatives to increase team’s capabilities. Also administer performance improvement plans.
- Recruitment and Onboarding:
- Oversee the full-cycle recruitment process, including preparing job descriptions, posting roles, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions.
- Ensure a smooth and engaging onboarding experience for new employees, including orientation, training, and integration into the company culture.
- Compliance and Legal Requirements:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws, including wage and hour regulations, OSHA requirements, and anti-discrimination laws.
- Stay informed about changes in employment laws and regulations to mitigate risk and ensure compliance across HR practices.
- Handle and process unemployment claims and assist with legal matters related to HR.
- Supervision and Development of HR Generalist:
- Directly supervise one HR Generalist, providing leadership, mentorship, and support.
- Guide the HR Generalist in managing day-to-day HR activities, including payroll, benefits, performance management, and employee relations.
- Ensure that the HR Generalist has the necessary resources and development opportunities to succeed in their role.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in human resources, including employee relations, onboarding, performance management, and employee engagement, preferably in a warehouse or fulfillment environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, HR, or a related field.
- Strong experience with payroll management, benefits administration, and compliance.
- Proven ability to manage and resolve complex employee relations issues.
- In-depth knowledge of HR policies, labor laws, and employment regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in culture building and driving employee engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
It’s a plus if you have:
- Experience with HRIS systems such as ADP, BambooHR, Trax, or Paychex.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Experience with acquisitions
- Knowledge of and passion for the wine industry or winery operations.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work onsite in our Napa, California operations center.
- Occasional lifting of office supplies or materials up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment, including exposure to varying temperatures.

Salary : $110,000 - $130,000
