Director of US Government and Legislative Affairs

Last Energy seeks a Director of US Government and Legislative Affairs to develop and manage relationships with US Executive Branch departments and agencies, as well as Congress. The ideal candidate will have recent experience working for the U.S. Department of Energy, Congress (particularly a committee focused on energy issues), or another department or agency where energy matters were a part of their portfolio. The successful candidate will have a proactive and agile leadership style with the ability to listen, engage, and collaborate in order to build and maintain meaningful relationships with key US Government stakeholders that enable the organization to deliver its challenging remit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key senior stakeholders across the US Government's Executive and Legislative Branches
  • Identify and pursue relevant US Government initiatives, programs, and partnerships that would bring strategic value to Last Energy’s business goals
  • Monitor, track and analyze proposed legislation and administrative actions, assess the potential impact on the company and formulate appropriate responses
  • Provide regular briefings to US Government stakeholders on Last Energy developments and manage government officials’ visits to company facilities and events
  • Regularly attend events in the Washington, DC metro area at federal government departments and agencies, on Capitol Hill, or where key US Government stakeholders will be in attendance
  • Develop and deploy grassroots lobbying tactics to support Last Energy’s public policy objectives

Qualifications

  • 10-15 years of experience, a majority of which was with the US Government and focused on energy matters
  • Deep understanding of US energy policy, as well as the policies and procedures of Executive branch departments and agencies, particularly the Department of Energy, as well as Congress
  • Possesses a hunter-mindset, the ability to take ownership of their work, and drive initiatives forward
  • Excels in creative problem-solving and building relationships
  • Strong writing, communication, and project management skills
