Job Description:

An Ubuntu Desktop Senior Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of Ubuntu desktop environments. As a key player in IT infrastructure, this role ensures that Ubuntu systems are optimized, secure, and effective in meeting the needs of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

System Design and Implementation: Plan, design, and deploy Ubuntu desktop environments. Ensure the systems are scalable, reliable, and secure.

Maintenance and Support: Perform regular system updates, patches, and upgrades to maintain optimal system performance and security. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Ubuntu desktop issues.

Security Management: Implement and manage security measures to safeguard the desktop environment. Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify and mitigate risks.

Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments to improve efficiency and user experience. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

IAM Integration: Integrate with Google IDP for Authentication

Chrome Remote Desktop: Experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting CRD issues.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes. Generate regular reports on system performance, security incidents, and support activities.

User Training and Support: Provide training and support to end-users to ensure they can effectively use the Ubuntu desktop environment. Develop user manuals and training materials.

Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams, including network, security, and applications teams, to ensure seamless integration and operation of the Ubuntu desktop environment.

Skills and Qualifications

Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Ubuntu desktop environments, including installation, configuration, and management.

Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.

Security Awareness: Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices for securing desktop environments.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with end-users and team members effectively.

Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.

Customer Service Orientation: A strong focus on providing exceptional support and service to end-users.

Education and Experience

Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Professional Experience: Proven experience in managing Ubuntu desktop environments, with at least 4-6 years of relevant work experience.

Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Linux , Ubuntu Professional, or LPI (Linux Professional Institute) certifications are preferred.
