JOB SUMMARY
Supervises clients to maximize adherence to court-imposed conditions, reduce risk to the community, and to provide correctional treatment. Meets with offenders who are involved with the criminal justice system. Assess problem areas, including alcohol, drugs, domestic violence, mental health, and history of non-compliance with Court ordered conditions. Submit reports to the Court, including sentencing alternatives, proposed revocation actions, or changes to current sentencing conditions. Provides supervision of offenders on probation and enforces Court ordered terms of probation.Position requires occasionally serving in an on-call status 24 hours a day and flexible work hours. Work involves regular communication with occasionally hostile or confrontational clients or family members, law enforcement, the public, treatment providers and county partners. Communication requires advanced de-escalation and effective listening skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
Supervises Adult Misdemeanor Offenders
· Meets with adults on a regular basis and coordinates with the family, school, and other agencies to monitor and assess the offender’s compliance with Court orders.
· Writes accurate and detailed case notes of all contacts involving clients.
· Schedules urinalysis testing, office visits, or other services to monitor and assess offenders’ compliance.
· Monitor and assess that client’s complete community service, pay restitution and Court fees, and meet other obligations in a timely manner.
· Conducts home visits and searches of offenders and their personal property.
· Confronts and redirects inappropriate behavior and attitudes.
· Holds offenders accountable for any violations by imposing sanctions and/or filing probation violations as appropriate.
· May facilitate placement into correctional facility, treatment facility, or other out of home placement.
· Collaborates with other professionals to monitor and assess that offender’s needs are met.
· Writes Reports to the Court.
· Writes case closures and summaries to the Court.
· May be called upon to testify in Court hearings.
· Performs Level Service Inventories-Revised.
· Complies with Interstate Compact as necessary.
Additional
· Facilitates groups such as Moral Reconation Therapy.
· May serve on-call from time to time to respond to after hour calls from law enforcement and other emergencies.
· May serve on local or regional committees such as the Child Abuse Task Force.
· Called upon to testify in Court hearings.
· Encounters, at times, confrontational situations with hostile probationers and/or family members.
· Completes other duties as assigned.
· May require flexible working hours.
· Assist Juvenile Probation and Latah County Youth Advocacy Council, as needed.
· Performs client transports as needed.
· Collaborates with law enforcement, Department of Health and Welfare, private providers, prosecutors, and attorneys to ensure a team approach in dealing with clients and in confronting the issues of the client within the community.
· On-call availability, provide support in the event it requires a response.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or other field.
· Two years’ experience working with offenders or closely related field.
· Requires ability to attain Certification through the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Academy within one year of date of hire.
· Must pass background check.
· Ability to qualify with a firearm and maintain minimum annual training hours.
· Ability to qualify with oleoresin capsicum spray.
· Ability to properly utilize hand cuffs and restraining devices.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Valid driver's license.
· Be able to utilize the following: ICourt Portal, ICOTS, Odyssey, Excel, and Word.
· General understanding of the criminal justice system
· Problem solving skills.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Sitting with intermittent movement in an office environment, lifting of office supplies, talking and hearing (in person and on telephone), memorizing and seeing documents.
· Manual dexterity to perform office functions (writing and typing).
· Lifting objects (greater than 40 lbs.), driving, crouching, and walking: physically able to intervene in a hostile situation.
· Participate and supervise field work with adults that may involve adverse or unconventional situations.
· May involve exposure to adverse weather conditions.
· Ability to convey and receive detailed information through oral and written communication.
· Must be able to pass defensive tactics as required by Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.)
