Job Title: Maintenance Assistant
Reports to: Maintenance Director

9. Perform all phases of work required to maintain the facilities. Provide services needed to prepare the facilities for use by guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide maintenance of all buildings including painting, repair work, and cleaning of exteriors.
2. Oversee the operation of the Water and Wastewater treatment plants including, daily testing, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and keeping organized record of all tests.
3. Maintain all plumbing in good working order.
4. Work with housekeeping staff to be sure all buildings are ready for guests.
5. Maintain and keep in good working order all equipment including but not limited to; tractors, mowers, weed eaters, and other tools essential to maintaining the grounds.
6. Keep the shop in in an orderly fashion.
7. Assist in new construction and remodeling as instructed.
8. Take part in the “on-call” staff rotation to meet the needs of guests that arise outside of regular work hours.
9. Accept other related assignments from the Maintenance Director.
Concerning Work Week Hours:
Expect to be on-duty at odd hours of the day. Understand and expect to work roughly 40 hour weeks during the retreat season and roughly 50-70 hour weeks during summer camp season (12 to 14-hour days are common). Typical work weeks are Tuesday-Saturday during retreat season. Summer schedules are determined by the Maintenance Director. Expect to be on-duty during weeks and weekends during summer camp and retreat season.
Retreat Season: Mid-August through mid-May
Summer Camp Season: Mid-May through mid-August
Understand that any time off must be approved by the Executive Director.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to use various tools for carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and all phases of construction and repair.

The employee is required to walk. The employee is required to operate machinery, drive passenger vehicles and small trucks. The employee is required to occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, often lift/move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally be asked to lift/move up to 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to temperatures ranging from below freezing to up to 110 degrees. The employee is often exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
