About the Role

The OGC Manager – Compliance is an integral part of Latham’s Office of the General Counsel (“OGC”) team. This role will be responsible for supervising Compliance Team staff members and supporting the Global Compliance Team by serving as liaison with Human Resources, while making recommendations to the HR department in selecting, coaching, counseling, and the performance management of the Compliance Team staff. This role will be located in our Washington, D.C. office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of Compliance Team staff; organizing, assigning, delegating, and coordinating the work of the staff to ensure department objectives are met timely and accurately, as well as supervising orientation, training, and professional development of the staff, and preparing and presenting formal performance evaluations for the staff
  • Ensuring all HR-related deadlines are met by the Global Compliance Team; in partnership with Global Compliance Team lawyers and supervisors, managing staffing requests and interview processes for new Global Compliance Team members
  • Working with Global Compliance Team lawyers, monitoring regulatory developments in the firm’s various jurisdictions to project and secure staffing and resources needed by the Global Compliance Team to meet future regulatory requirements, particularly in the areas of AML-CFT and Sanctions; developing short- and long-range goals for the Global Compliance Team, and preparing and presenting recommendations for strategic staffing and resources needs
  • Working with Global Compliance Team lawyers to provide ongoing evaluation of existing systems and procedures and their ability to meet future regulatory requirements, and providing recommendations for improvements and long range strategic planning  
  • Supporting Global Compliance Team supervisors in requesting professional development opportunities and resources needed by their staff to meet future regulatory requirements

We’d love to hear from you if you: 

  • Demonstrate excellent leadership skills, this includes organizing, planning, problem-solving and decision-making necessary for effective management
  • Display the advanced ability to perceive and analyze problems and develop alternative strategies to solve them
  • Possess extensive knowledge and skill in utilizing databases, and familiarity with standard database procedures, such as searching and generating reports

And have:

  • Bachelor's degree, with a Law degree from an accredited law school desired
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in a large law firm or financial institution setting
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in global compliance programs in a large law firm or financial institution setting
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience managing global compliance projects in a large law firm or financial institution setting, along with experience in a supervisory capacity
