Speech-Language Pathologist

Job Overview

The Speech-Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect clinical services to students who have been diagnosed with an academically-based communication disorder in areas of articulation, languages, voice and/or fluency
  • Provide and complete comprehensive diagnostic assessments of speech, voice, and language impairments; and determine the presence/absence of a specific communication disorder which adversely impacts academic progress
  • Serve as a resource to school staff members by developing a balanced program for oral communication and speech, language, and literacy development
  • Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services
  • Develop appropriate IEPs based on students’ strengths and needs
  • Collaborate/consult with classroom teachers in the management of speech-language disorders
  • Plan and use evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students
  • Adjust intervention strategies based upon student performance
  • Promote effective interpersonal relations with students
  • Complete procedural documentation appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Abide by professional code of ethics
  • Collaborate with parents; provide resources and information for families
  • Assist in referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community, as appropriate
  • Support implementation and training for students using Assistive and Augmentative Communication (AAC)
  • Other duties as assigned
 

Basic Qualifications

  • Three years of experience working in a school setting (preferred) 
  • Energetic, flexible, imaginative and eager to work in a bilingual and multicultural public school
  • Master’s degree (MA/MS) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology
  • Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist by the District of Columbia Public Health Board.
  • Certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.   
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to parent, staff, and student needs and information

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience, based on a full-time salary range of $75,000 - $115,000, to be prorated based on part-time schedule.
