Latin School of Chicago is seeking an Assistant Director of the Lower School. This leadership position works closely with the Lower School Division Director to manage divisional operations, with a focus on prioritizing a comprehensive, holistic academic program and providing leadership and support to faculty and staff. The Assistant Director role is a twelve (12) month, on-site administrative position.
Administrative Support
- Work closely with lead teachers, Academic Chairs, and Academic Affairs to coordinate and support the management of the academic schedule, including homeroom, specialist, and learning resources classes.
- Oversee management of the daily operations of the lower school in collaboration with the LS Administrative Assistant: faculty attendance, substitute coverage, faculty duty assignments, budget, and purchasing.
- Assist LS Director with student concerns (academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports) and serve on the LS Student Support Team.
- Serve on the Academic Council, LS Admissions Committee, LS hiring teams, and other committees as assigned.
- Along with LS Director, serve as liaison to various departments including Facilities, Food Service, Operations, Communications, Advancement
Faculty Support

Serve as Director of the Assistant Teacher Program. Responsibilities include:
- Hiring and placement of 24 assistants and student teachers
- Mentoring
- Evaluations, observations, formal meetings, and written reports
- Collaborate with Assistant Teacher Seminar Coordinator
- Writing assistant teacher recommendations
- Support immediate needs/communication to and for classrooms, including subbing and duties
- Support Lead Teachers with division-wide special events
- Assist LS Director in reading student reports twice a year for accuracy.
- BA required, MA preferred
- A minimum of 5 years classroom experience, preferably in elementary
- Proven record of successful leadership, including hiring, mentoring faculty/staff
- Experience with teacher feedback/evaluation
- Experience with budgeting and scheduling
- Proven record of successful problem solving/conflict resolution with students, colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders
- Interpersonal warmth with colleagues and delight in young children
- Keen understanding of the developmental needs and milestones of lower school students
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Current Illinois teacher/administrator license preferred
