The Learning Resources Math Specialist, as the expert in learning strategies and techniques for students with learning disabilities and challenges, will support students in both individual and small groups with a focus on skill development, self-advocacy, growth mindset, and executive functions. Experience working with gifted student populations. Preferred qualifications: Learning Behavior Specialist and/or Gifted certification.
GENERAL - DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as a case manager for students with diagnosed learning differences in grades 5-8.
- Offer personalized curricular support and executive function skills development to students with diagnosed learning differences, ADHD, social/emotional concerns, or weak study skills.
- Manage a student caseload to provide learning support and implement accommodations, modifications, and support plans for students.
- Partner with external providers (diagnosticians, etc.) to identify, interpret, and implement accommodations, modifications, and support plans to support the needs of students with learning differences.
- Work closely and collaboratively with faculty members and administrators
- Oversee and report recommendations for students based on diagnostic and curriculum-based data to relevant individuals and/or groups.
- Provide timely and frequent updates to parents / guardians about student progress.
- Facilitate educational opportunities and programming to various constituency groups about learning differences.
- Organizes and maintains documentation of student evaluations and other diagnostic assessments.
MATH SPECIALIST - DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individualized and small group student support for students who need additional Math support via the Math Center and/or Learning Resources.
- 1:1 and small group intervention will take place during prescribed study hall and/or LR blocks throughout the school year.
- Referrals will be informed by ERB data, Milestone data, and performance in their subject-area (range of percentiles will be considered when forming groups)
- Create a dynamic, inviting, collaborative, and growth-minded MS Math Center for students to explore math beyond the traditional curriculum, and to offer student enrichment.
- Collaborate with the Math Department to provide in-class support and enrichment opportunities. (clubs, contests, periodic challenge activities)
- Lead all planning and oversight of annual middle school math contest
- Partner with the Math Department as an advocate for the integration of data analysis, differentiation, and other best practices to support daily instruction and sustain a clear and progressive curricular scope and sequence.
- Explore various summer opportunities for student support and enrichment
- Coordinate and consult with the Testing Coordinator to expand opportunities for students with high interest and/or strong scores using various assessment measures and the Learning Profile Screener.
- Provide consultation for Math placement process (6th, 7th, 8th grades, and transition to 9th grade)
Compensation:
- Salary is $64,622 - $114,967 annually, based on education level and years of experience as outlined in our Faculty Scale.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Learning Disabilities or Special Education is preferred. Bachelor’s degree is minimum requirement.
- 3 years’ experience working in the field of learning disabilities or special education including experience remediating underachievement in math, reading, and language
- Learning Behavior Specialist and/or Gifted certification
- LBS 1 certification is preferred (Special Education Learning Behavioral Specialist I)
- Proficiency with the use of iPads and other Mac devices
