Job Summary
The Victim Advocate plays a key role in providing emotional support, resources, and guidance to Spanish-speaking individuals who have experienced domestic or sexual violence. The advocate will work directly with clients to navigate their recovery process, offering trauma-informed support and connecting them to vital services such as social services, legal aid, housing, and counseling. The role requires a compassionate and culturally sensitive approach while collaborating with various local organizations to ensure that victims receive the help they need.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide immediate crisis intervention and emotional support to victims of domestic and sexual violence.
- Assist clients in understanding their rights and navigating the legal system, including court and hospital accompaniment.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, social service providers, and community organizations to ensure comprehensive support for victims and their families.
- Conduct assessments to identify the needs of victims and develop personalized support plans.
- Facilitate access to resources such as counseling, shelter, and legal aid.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and case progress.
- Actively participate in community outreach efforts to raise awareness about victim services.
- Stay informed about current laws and policies related to family violence, immigration, child welfare, and behavioral health.
- Engage in conflict management and problem-solving strategies to support victims in their recovery.
- Promote the mission of Latinos en Virginia Empowerment Center in all interactions and activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience working with immigrant communities
- Experience working with trauma survivors, especially those from marginalized or immigrant communities, is highly desirable.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with bicultural competence.
- Knowledge of immigration policies and regulations is strongly preferred.
- Ability to maintain a professional, compassionate, and respectful demeanor while working with individuals in crisis situations.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong ability to engage diverse populations.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Comfortable using computer systems and software, including Google Tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Reliable transportation and a valid VA driver’s license.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Ability to travel locally and statewide as needed.
Work Schedule
This position requires flexibility, including evening and some weekend hours, depending on client needs and outreach events.
Compensation
Competitive salary, commensurate with experience, along with a benefits package.
