About the Job
The Safety and Environmental Program Manager will work with all regulatory agencies, including OSHA, OH-BWC, Ohio EPA, DTSC, and GCWW. This position will develop and implement corporate standards, best practices, and ensure continual improvement in all areas of EH&S.
Under the direction of the VP of Human Resources and Plant Manager, the EH&S Manager will drive awareness training and compliance in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering or similar discipline and/or experience, preferred.
- 5 years related experience managing safety and environmental programs within a manufacturing environment, preferred.
- Experience with manufacturing equipment and understanding of packinghouse/warehouse processes and operations, preferred.
- Experience managing Workers' Compensation within a monopolistic state, preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish is REQUIRED.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all aspects of State and Federal Regulatory Safety and Environmental Programs for all company facilities that are obligated by these programs such as OSHA Confined Space (Permit Required and Non-Permit Required), IIPP, Hot Work Permit, Respiratory Protection, Powered Industrial Trucks, Hearing Conservation, Emergency Action Planning, Lock-out/ Tag-out, Contractor Safety, etc.
- Ensures company compliance with Environmental Health and Safety regulations and facility permitting requirements (OSHA, OH-BWC, Ohio EPA, DTSC, and GCWW, etc.)
- Implements, leads, and continuously improves EH&S policies/procedures, program audits, and inspections; reports environmental health and safety performance regularly.
- Administers all aspects of the company's IIPP and additional safety programs. Plans, organizes, and holds monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
- Manages incidents from reporting, claim management, return-to-work accommodation process, investigation, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Oversees company incident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.
- Manages the company's strategic safety plan, audits, and updates where needed.
- Responsible for the company's commitment to improving the environment through waste reduction initiatives.
- Acts as primary liaison to all local and regulatory agencies.
- Develops and conducts training to support prevention initiatives.
- Assists departments in administering specific EH&S programs.
- Monitors facility for safety issues and violations and partners with department leaders to make appropriate corrections.
- Manages all environmental programs with the assistance of Plant Management at all sites.
- Tracks and trends company's industrial injuries, near misses, and property damage and investigates their root cause to take corrective action and works with managers to prevent reoccurrence.
- Works with WC insurance loss prevention personnel to implement loss prevention programs.
- Formulates general safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal law.
- Prepares and submits safety and environmental reports on a timely basis to regulatory agencies.
- Reacts to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Develop and distribute EHS internal communications.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
