Minimum Job Requirements
- Physical- proficient in using a PC keyboard. Requires ability to physically move about the manufacturing floor.
- Working Hours- full-time (45 hrs/week) employment.
- Personal Traits- Good communication abilities and ability to work well with all levels of the organization. Ability to multi-task with conscientious attention to detail and accuracy.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for assigned production processes, meeting production deadlines and managing assigned manufacturing employees. This position is expected to help set the vision and execute strategic plans and direction, lead change efforts, and motivate teams to achieve established goals. Authority to hire and fire employees subject to company policies. Authority to place purchase requisitions as needed for the day-to-day operation of the plant, as well as manage assigned budget. Manage capital equipment projects and identify capital equipment needs for area.
- Manage and develop assigned manufacturing personnel.
- Determine manpower requirements to most efficiently produce product and meet production deadlines.
- Work with project management to develop the most efficient and cost-effective manufacturing methods.
- Work with the Quality Manager/Engineer to ensure quality and AS9100 standards are met and upheld in all assigned manufacturing areas.
- Ensure all employees work safely and all hazardous conditions are eliminated.
- Review production schedules and ensure output meets the required deadlines.
- Ensure cross departmental communication, both verbal and written, is accurate and effective.
- Supervise and monitor department employees, including hiring, terminating, performance evaluation, training, work allocation and problem resolution.
- Responsible for inventory control, including monthly physical and/or cycle counts in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Work with purchasing and scheduling to ensure material and resource needs meet the demands
- Ensure all applicable operating policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure directives of the VP of Operations, Plant Manager, Business Development and President are carried out throughout the organization.
- Ensure continuous improvements and corrective/preventive actions are carried out, planned and implemented in all departments.
- Assist with manufacturing process difficulties, i.e. tooling, drawing requirements and interpretations to ensure effective corrections and implementation
- Ensure adequate supervision is present in the plant, including weekends and other non-traditional workdays.
- Ensure government requirements and regulations are followed.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent knowledge in the science of manufacturing.
- Excellent understanding of metal processing, powder coating or assembly.
- Demonstrated ability to lead people in a changing environment and manage assigned areas working to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics.
- Strong supervisory skills and the ability to motivate and work well with others remain unbiased and fair in all personnel related actions.
- Must have strong multitasking skills and the ability to perform in a high paced environment.
- Strong teambuilding and interpersonal skills; conflict resolution experience desired
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in working with and understanding ISO requirements, AS9100 is preferred.
- Experienced in the use of Word, Excel and an ERP type production, costing, inventory control, and purchasing system.
- Experience with an MRP system, six sigma, and 5S is desired.
Education and Experience
- Experienced in high volume low to medium mix manufacturing with a focus in one or more of the following areas: Machine Shop, Stamping, Fabrication, Welding, Grinding, Powder Coating, and Assembly. Ten years’ manufacturing experience and 5 years supervisory experience required, a B. S. degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics preferred.
