Organization Overview
Laumeier Sculpture Park, one of the first and largest sculpture parks in the country, is
an internationally recognized, nonprofit arts organization that is accredited by the
American Alliance of Museums and operates in partnership with St. Louis County Parks.
Laumeier presents more than 70 works of large-scale outdoor sculpture in a 105-acre
park that is free and open daily. Laumeier serves approximately 360,000 visitors of all
ages each year with presentations of art through a sculpture collection, temporary
exhibitions, education programs, public events, and more. The park is located in Sunset
Hills, Missouri in St. Louis County.
Position Overview
Summer Art Camp is a signature Laumeier program that has been running continuously
for over 35 years. It is beloved and highly respected in the community and maintains a
high standard of excellence. It is an outdoor education program, held on Laumeier’s
grounds. It runs in weekly sessions for eight weeks, from mid-June through early
August.
Art Camp Education Assistants are seasonal, hourly, non-exempt employees who
report to the Learning & Engagement Specialist and work closely with the Education
Coordinator and other education staff. There are full-time (approximately 40 hours per
week) and part-time (approximately 25 hours per week) positions available.
Art Camp Education Assistants play an integral role in ensuring every learner
experiences a fun and high-quality program that meets or exceeds the standards
outlined in Laumeier’s educational philosophy statement. Assistants are either hired to
be floating assistants or hired and assigned to programs geared towards specific age
groups: Little Buds: Ages 3.5-6; Art Adventurers: Ages 5-10; Art Squad: Ages 10-15.
Assistants receive paid training and have the opportunity to participate in volunteer
professional development (PD) opportunities throughout their time at Laumeier.
The schedule is as follows:
April 6 – May 25: Approximately 25 hours of paid training and PD conducted in-person
at Laumeier and at select locations around the St. Louis region. Some trainings may be
available via Zoom. Trainings and PD occur on Sundays.
June 2 – 6: Approximately 40 hours of paid setup, additional trainings, and a Family
Open House event on the evening of June 6
June 9 – August 1: Programs in session – Approximately 40 hours per week for full-time
staff; approximately 25 hours per week for part-time staff
August 4: Approximately 8 hours of cleanup time a celebratory appreciation meal
Duties Responsibilities
- Assist lead instructors with daily tasks for eight one-week sessions
- Be prepared to serve as a substitute instructor if needed
- Help facilitate art projects and sculpture explorations
- Co-lead hikes, mindfulness exercises, and other outdoor activities
- Create an atmosphere that is fun, safe and promotes creative thinking
- Assist supervisor with check-in and check-out procedures as needed
- Help make supply lists
- Help maintain proper inventory and storage of supplies
- Report missing or damaged equipment to supervisor
- Attend all trainings and meetings
- Serve as an ambassador of Laumeier Sculpture Park
- Communicate with caregivers and special guests as needed
- Keep supervisor informed of feedback
- Complete all reports (attendance, accident, evaluation)
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications Skills
The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about art, education, and the
outdoors; possesses a calm, patient demeanor; has the ability to work in a high-energy
summer camp setting with a lot happening simultaneously.

Education Experience
Previous experience working with children is required. Previous experience caregiving,
teaching, activity planning, and/or working with a variety of art media is preferred.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to pass a background check, including a check for criminal records
- Be able to work outdoors and walk long distances
Compensation
$15-17/HR
