Position Summary:
LCPCS is seeking a dedicated Educational Assistant – Special Education to support teachers in providing individualized instruction and accommodations for students with disabilities. This role is essential in fostering an inclusive, hands-on learning environment that ensures academic success for all students. The ideal candidate is compassionate, adaptable, and committed to empowering students with diverse learning needs PreK-12.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the special education teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and accommodations.
- Support students with disabilities in both general and special education settings through differentiated instruction, behavioral intervention and hands-on activities.
- Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to reinforce learning concepts and promote student engagement.
- Utilize assistive technology and adaptive learning tools as needed.
- Monitor student progress, document observations, and communicate effectively with teachers and support staff.
- Assist with classroom management, behavior support, and social-emotional learning strategies.
- Facilitate inclusion by supporting students’ participation in school activities and peer interactions in a variety of settings.
- Provide personal care assistance (if required), including mobility support, feeding, and hygiene needs.
- Prepare learning materials and modify assignments based on individual student needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and administrators to ensure student success.
- Uphold confidentiality and compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
- Understanding of and respect for Hawaiian culture, values, and traditions, with a willingness to integrate them into teaching and practice.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children with disabilities in an educational setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of special education strategies, behavior management, and individualized instruction.
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and a passion for supporting diverse learners.
- Ability to lift/move students if necessary and assist with physical needs.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
