The Laurel School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of High School Assistant Principal, beginning the 2025-2026 school year. Current base salary will be $78,165.00 with the potential for more depending on previous experience and education, but negotiations are in progress for 25-26 SY.

 

Assists the school principal in the provision of direction, leadership, and day-to-day management of educational activities within an assigned school.  Plays an integral role in the establishment and maintenance of a school climate that is conducive to learning, including overseeing the enforcement of school rules and regulations, and the implementation of disciplinary measures when deemed necessary.  Oversees the student admission, dismissal, referral and retention processes, monitoring student and staff attendance, and aiding the supervision of curriculum development activities.  Supervises profession and paraprofessional personnel and provides administrative level liaison with internal and external components, constituents and programs.    

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                      

  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration
  • Current Montana Administrator’s certificate
  • At least 5 years teaching/principal experience
  • Able to perform the duties of an assistant school administrator in a consistent and proficient manner
  • Able to work with students and adults
  • Able to make meaningful decisions on a consistent basis under pressure
  • Ability to create a positive culture by bringing staff members together
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with families and communities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Create a safe, welcoming environment that reflects the diversity of the student population

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as part of the assigned school’s administrative team; oversees the administration of school programs and the implementation of policies.
  • Assists in planning, organizing and evaluating services for professional and non-professional personnel such as staff development activities, resource management, and instructional program development.
  • Ensures that the educational program offered is consistent with the adopted philosophy and goals of the district.
  • Aides the Principal in calling and conducting all necessary staff meetings.
  • Observes, confers, and writes the evaluations of teachers and staff, as assigned by the Principal
  • Aides the Principal in coordinating the programs, master schedule, rules and regulations of his/her building with those of the other buildings in the district.
  • Keeps accurate and permanent records of all students enrolled in the building.
  • Shall be responsible for the opening and closing of the building when the Principal is not present.
  • Exercises authority to excuse any pupil upon written request of the parent/guardian.
  • In case of emergency, may excuse all students and he/she will immediately notify the superintendent of such actions.
  • Aides in conducting emergency preparedness drills as required by law.
  • Helps to supervise extra-curricular activities; may engage in before-school, after-school and evening activities as required.
  • Participates in the preparation and implementation of the school budget.
  • Participates in requisitions for and distributes all materials and supplies for the building.
  • Assists in providing an annual inventory of all equipment in the building.
  • Fosters a cohesive, clear vision for teaching and learning that aligns all aspects of the school- curriculum, instruction, assessment, policy, equity and culture-to student learning.
  • Engage school constituents in creating a rigorous academic program and positive school culture that root our disparities in achievement.
  • Work to ensure all teachers, whether one-on-one or in small groups, engage in non-evaluative coaching cycles with school leadership and colleagues.
  • Disaggregate data by teacher and content area to study patterns of teacher and program performance, with proper cautions regarding simplistic assumptions of causality.
  • Continuously communicate the vision for all constituents, recruiting internal and external (including parents) to support the district’s vision.
  • Use data from traditional measures of academic achievement, character growth, student work and parent input to identify questions that drive school improvement.
  • Assist in creating structures for selection and retention of high-quality staff.
  • Set high expectations and model behaviors that foster mutual respect, integrity, accountability, and commitment.
  • Tours the school building and its external perimeters to monitor safety and security; directs and coordinates staff supervision of areas such as hallways and cafeterias; ensure that school rules and negotiations are enforced on premises.
  • Handles student disciplinary measures.
  • Conducts classroom observations on instructional staff; provides input to the school principal during the teacher evaluation process.
  • Model being an engaged learner in professional development.
  • Participate in developing norms and protocol for productive collaborative inquiry.
  • Celebrate team achievements and recognize individual accomplishments and contributions.
  • Address conflict productively, professional and proactively.
  • Continue to develop best practices in effective leadership.
  • Aides in assisting Principal to ensure that decisions are made in the best interest of the students while maintain a fiscally-minded operation.
  • Inform parent- and student- organizations of fund-raising regulations and other guidelines.
