About Us :
Laurel Ridge, located in Laurel Springs, NC 28644, offers year-round facility rentals to individuals and groups from churches, nonprofits, civic organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, and professional organizations. Additionally, we host special events and programs for all ages in the breathtaking setting of the North Carolina high country.
Our summer camp, running from June through early August, is owned and operated by the Moravian Church in America, Southern Province. As a nonprofit ministry of the church, our mission is :

What You'll Be Doing if you are a camp counselor
Being a summer camp counselor is a rewarding way to spend the summer working with campers of all ages. You’ll partner with volunteer counselors in each cabin, with volunteers rotating weekly. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to build your resume while gaining valuable and diverse skills.
What to Expect :
You will stay in a cabin with campers, ensuring they participate in all their scheduled activities.
You’ll assist campers with their daily needs, including managing medications.
Training will be provided to guide the program, and you will lead a small group each morning following worship.
You’ll help facilitate and support various activities throughout the day.
You will report directly to the Program Manager.
Skills like certified lifeguarding or playing guitar and other instruments are welcome but not required.
What You'll Be Doing if you are on Mission Camp Staff
Serving on the Mission Camp Staff is a meaningful and rewarding way to spend your summer working with youth in mission camps. At Laurel Ridge, we take pride in making a positive impact by serving the local community. This role provides an excellent opportunity to enhance your resume while developing a wide range of valuable skills. You'll engage in diverse projects, including various tasks in homes across Ashe, Alleghany, and Wilkes Counties.
What to Expect :
Mission Camp Weeks (four weeks during the summer)
During each week of Mission Camp, staff members will stay at Tise Lodge.
You’ll report to the Camp Director, Facilities and Program Manager
Staff will assist the Construction Manager(s) with on-site supervision of projects.
Staff will support the Deans with evening program activities under the guidance of the Program Manager.
Staff will act as a liaison between church groups, project residents, and the Construction Manager.
Non-Mission Camp Weeks
Assist the Facilities Manager with various projects around the camp as required.
Collaborate with the Program Manager to plan programming for upcoming Mission Camp weeks.
Work with homeowners to complete projects that were started but not finished by Mission Camp teams.
Provide additional support and assistance around Laurel Ridge as needed.
What You'll Be Doing if you are M-staff
Being on m-staff is a rewarding way to spend the summer doing task that make the summer camp beautiful. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to build your resume while gaining valuable and diverse skills.
What to Expect :
Serve as a resource to help both campers and counselors create a meaningful and enjoyable camp experience.
Assist with program activities during worship, daily events, and evening campfires.
Provide support during camp activities and specialized tracks.
Contribute to the care and cleanliness of the camp, including the kitchen, dining hall, bathrooms, dishwashing area, and other common spaces as needed.
Assist with camp maintenance, including minor repairs, small construction projects, and landscaping tasks.
Act as a positive role model for the entire camp community through interactions with campers, volunteers, and staff.
Report to the Camp Director and Facilities Manager and the Program Manager
Preferred Qualifications :
Proficiency in playing an instrument for use during program activities.
Current lifeguard certification.
Additionally : The Laurel Ridge team collaborates to ensure the camp runs smoothly, which may include taking on additional tasks that arise during the summer. Everyone works together to make the camp experience exceptional.
