Family Engagement and Support Coordinator
The Family Engagement and Support Coordinator plays a vital, multi-faceted role in supporting families, strengthening community partnerships, and promoting educational equity. This position combines the responsibilities of a Parent Coach, Volunteer Specialist, and McKinney-Vento Liaison to ensure families receive the guidance, resources, and advocacy needed for student success.
Key Responsibilities:
Parent Coaching:
- Provides, supports, and empowers parents to develop effective parenting skills, strengthen family relationships, and address behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges with their children;
- Provide personalized coaching sessions, workshops, and resources for teachers and families;
- Provides guidance, education, and encouragement tailored to each family's unique needs and goals; and
- Collaborates with families and teachers to create positive home environments, improve home-school communication, and promote healthy child development.
Volunteer Specialist:
- Oversees District Volunteer Coordinators in each school;
- Recruits, trains, and retains community volunteers to support school and/or program activities;
- Coordinates volunteer assignments, maintains records, and ensures compliance with safety and background check procedures; and
- Recognizes and celebrates volunteer contributions to enhance engagement and morale.
McKinney-Vento Liaison Duties:
- Identifies and supports students and families experiencing homelessness in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act;
- Ensures students have access to educational rights, including enrollment, transportation, school supplies, and support services; and
- Serves as a liaison between families, school personnel, and community organizations to coordinate services and remove barriers to educational access.
Behavior Coaching:
- Provides, supports, and empowers teachers to develop effective and positive behavior tools to strengthen teacher/student relationships, and address behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges in a positive environment; and
- Provides personal and group training and resources for educators on effective behavior strategies.
- Supports teachers in behavior data collection, Behavior Improvement Plan implementation, and identifying effective and ineffective teacher behaviors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, guidance, human services, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, family systems, and child development.
- Experience in volunteer management and community outreach.
- Knowledge of McKinney-Vento legislation and support services for students experiencing homelessness.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Skills:
- Bilingual (preferred but not required)
- Experience with case management and data tracking systems
- Public speaking or facilitation experience
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- One hundred (100) days per year
- Salary is dependent upon placement on the Laurens School District No. 55 salary scale.

- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Staff.
