What are the responsibilities and job description for the Organics Recycling position at Lautenbach Recycling?
We are searching for an energetic, detail-oriented person who enjoys working outdoors to join our team of dedicated sort line pickers and laborers.
The perfect candidate will enjoy working in a fast paced, very physical and outdoor environment in which lifting up to 50 pounds, bending and sorting through construction and demolition recycling materials are your core job duties. Our sort line team also assists the ground sort team in separating materials, when necessary, helps with grounds upkeep and participates in our de-packaging operations as needed. This site is an active Construction & Demolition recycling center which has frequent traffic, dust, and equipment noise. In a typical day you will spend up to 80% of your time sorting recyclable construction materials and the remaining 20% supporting other facility operations. If this sounds like you, we’d love to talk! The ideal candidate will be forklift certified or will be able and willing to do so. Experience around and operating heavy equipment will also be a huge plus!
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist the depack lead in processing inbound organic materials. This includes but is not limited to removing non-organic debris from inbound loads, cleaning up spillage that occurs during the depackaging process, unload palletized from materials from 53' trailers, learning to operate Tiger depackaging machine and learning the process of taking materials to our company composting facility.
- Inspect materials and sort into specific bins designated for that material.
- Pull contaminants out of recyclable material.
- Compliance with all Company, State, Federal and OSHA policies, safety, and standards
- Maintain a clean environment on conveyor and surrounding sort line.
- Performs other related duties as requested.

- Be able to follow safe operating practices.
- Be able to learn and use interpersonal skills relating to good customer service.
- Be able and willing to work in a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Push, pull, drag, and lift items up to 50 pounds, climbing steps, and overhead reaching.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.
- Walking, jogging, twisting, crouching, lifting.
- Sufficient stamina for steady work pace throughout the day
- Tolerance for unpleasant smells
- Able to utilize all Personal Protective Equipment as mandated by company.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required.

The Location: We are in Mount Vernon just north of Highway 20 in the beautiful Skagit Valley. The site is a fully operational Construction & Demolition and Organics processing and recycling center which has frequent traffic, dust, and noise. Why Should You Apply?
