Job Description
This position encompasses responsible work of varying degrees of difficulty performed under the supervision of higher level staff.
Communications and Docketing (CDS) Clerks process and route thousands of pieces of mail and update the records for various legal divisions in the New York City Law Department. CDS Clerks are responsible processing legal materials for all of the Law Departments borough offices as well as filing and updating the case files for all court cases currently being managed by the New York City Law Department. These documents and case matters need to be processed with accuracy and efficiency while following strict protocols and legal guidelines. The successful candidate will need to be responsible and reliable in all assigned work with a high level of independent thought and consistent follow through. Responsibilities will include: Intake, logging, routing, and docketing of a diverse amount of legal documents and requests. Process requests received electronically, verbally, and written. Perform data entry into in Law Department database and update various document types for multiple legal divisions. Assist in daily processing of critical time sensitive documents. Receive documents served on the city at our service window. Applicants must be able to handle 50 lbs. of weight in packages taken to and from the Post Office, each day on rolling carts. Sort mail based on type and perform multi-level sorts. Work with mail equipment and various package vendors systems for mail processing. Provide support at the hand delivery station. Process documents received at the electronic fax station. Photocopy litigation documents and files. Work on special projects as required. Cross train with different operations units. Completion of daily production logs is required.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
Preferred Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to multi-task with flexibility and efficiency while achieving required productivity levels. Expertise in applicable data entry and Microsoft Office applications is required.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
