What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Secretary/Assistant position at Law Office Of Tarah M. Wagner?
This position is for a highly motivated self-starter who has office experience. I am looking for a legal secretary / office manager. This position will require office duties such as answering phones, answering my email as well as the paralegal email, and handling all mail as well as, filing, using Linx/other court systems and calendaring. As well as running the office. There is also a degree of personal assistant work in this job. This position is to assist and support the paralegal and the attorney. There may be some paralegal aspects to this position, however it is a support position to the paralegal.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a part time/ possible full time in -person position. In person. There is no negotiation for hybrid or remote work except for extenuating and emergency situations on a as needed basis. You are expected to be in office.
If you require a starting pay of over the pay range please do not apply. I am a solo practitioner and cannot afford to start anyone at over the pay range, even if you have the experience that would justify a starting pay over my $21 top of my pay range. So please do not apply if this is a deal breaker. If you are willing to start off at a lower rate and with time and experience with my firm are willing to grow with the Firm then we can discuss a higher wage later on down the road. The starting pay range is $19- $21 based on relevant experience. While I do not require legal experience, if you do not have these things you will NOT be considered for the higher pay range. This is NON negotiable.
The position will require someone who is detail-oriented and who can multitask. This is a high-stress job that will require the ability to prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines while maintaining the office. You will be working by yourself in the office often and will need to be able to start projects and work on Documents independently with basic instruction. We are looking for someone that can self -motivate and self- problem solve.
There will be some training, but please do not expect extensive training. I need someone who is capable of jumping in with little training, mostly training on my preferences. But I need someone who can problem solve and resolve issues on their own.
The area of practice is mostly Family Law and Dependency cases as well as Minor Guardianships. I do not require someone who has paralegal experience, however, office experience and knowledge of how to use computers and run an office to a degree are essential. It is only myself and my paralegal so I am looking for someone who can run the office when I am not here and handle all of the day-to-day tasks to keep the office going. Administrative tasks are a part of the job including keeping records of finances and drafting and maintaining excel spreadsheets and files.
My paralegal works remote, so the legal assistant will be in office by themselves most of the time, as the attorney is in and out of court frequently if this is an issue, this is not the position for you. You will be expected to hit the ground running on the very first day. Training is on the job and will be as you work.
I am looking for someone who can work independently and does not need to be micromanaged. You will need to communicate with clients and other attorneys, so someone who has customer service skills and can handle high conflict.
It is expected that you start at 8 am, which means you need to be at your desk ready to start for the day at 8 AM and should be available to stay until at least 4:30PM, every day.
I am looking for someone to start in the next few days.
There will be a period of training that takes place in the office. There is no possibility for any remote work. Unless, as indicaated above. This is an in person full time position. If remote working is necessary, that can be discussed on an as needed basis.
Pay is based on experience and can be discussed at the interview. The pay range is between $19-$21 an hour, and level of experience and type of experience will be considered. The pay range is non negotiable regardless of education or experience. So if you expect to start over this range please do not apply as any amount over the specific range will NOT be considered to start.
I am unable to offer any health benefits or retirement benefits at this time. However, raises, bonuses and paid holidays are available with eligibility.
Unpaid Vacation time shall be available after 30 days from the start date of employment, and approval is necessary with a 30 days' notice requirement.
If you do not have a college degree or equivalent, you are not eligible for the higher pay range to start. There is room for growth however, and raises and bonuses.
In order to be considered for this Position, you will need to provide me with a Resume and a Cover letter, and 3 references. including a former or current employer
You do not need to have exclusive experience in being a legal secretary, However, I am looking for someone with office experience.
